Bjorn Baker can put exclamation mark on stellar year at Randwick on Saturday
Fresh from winning the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes, trainer Bjorn Baker is aiming to finish an incredible year with another feature race win at Randwick on Saturday.
Warwick Farm trainer Bjorn Baker hopes to grab one more feature race victory on Saturday before his most successful year comes to a close.
Last weekend, Baker claimed a third Group 1 win of the year when Overpass trounced his opposition in the Winterbottom Stakes in Perth.
That success was Baker’s second major win in Perth during 2023 after Overpass also won the inaugural $4 million The Quokka back in April.

“It’s been a great year, that’s for sure,” Baker said.
“Aside from the deeds of Overpass, to win a Tancred with Arapaho and a Coolmore with Ozzmosis were massive achievements for our team.
“I’d love to pinch another big race on Saturday.”
Baker will saddle up two runners, popular veteran Frosty Rocks and Dynamic Impact in the Listed Razor Sharp Handicap (1200m) at Royal Randwick.

Frosty Rocks returns from a spell and Baker hopes the stable stalwart can recapture his best form to warrant a third trip to the Gold Coast in January for Magic Millions day.
“It’s Christmas time so it’s time to get in the spirit with old Frosty,” Baker said.
“I’ve put a set of blinkers on him for Saturday.
“He’s done plenty of work, it’s just sometimes he’s been a bit lacklustre but in saying that he’s done that in the past and raced well.
“He’ll jump and put himself there and hopefully he’ll keep them honest.”

Last-start winner Dynamic Impact joins Frosty Rocks in the quality handicap and his trainer said he’s racing in career-best form and deserves his chance in a feature sprint.
“If they go quick enough, he’s a horse that will be out the back doing no work and hitting the line,” Baker said.

“He’s going really well.
“He’s a very big gross horse that’s taken plenty to get fit and he’s really only hitting his peak now.
“Provided the race plays out to his liking, he’ll run a good race on Saturday.
“He’s not out of it.”
Baker nominated Iowna Merc at the stable’s best chance of a winner on Saturday in the Aloha Strawberry Hills Stud Handicap (1100m).
“He’s going really well but he has to overcome a tricky gate,” he said.
“The form around him is good and if he can just get a bit of luck from the gate, he’ll run a big race.”
