What’s better than a night out with the girls on the Gold Coast?

Very little most would say, but this Friday night it is strictly business for jockey Cejay Graham as she looks to boot home exciting filly Vein Girl in the rich Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) for her all-female contingent of owners.

“If we happened to win I’m not the biggest of celebrators anyway and I’ve got a full book at Eagle Farm the next day – I’m more someone that moves pretty quickly on to the next challenge,” Graham said.

“This is my first ride in the race and I’m really confident in my filly, she’s given me a great feel this week and if anything I think the extra break has done her good.

“She’s a very push-button filly and from barrier six we’ve got a number of options. The plan last week was to be in and around the top four and I can’t see anything changing for Friday.

“The filly is so well educated and has a real toughness about her. I’m really looking forward to the occasion.”

Curtis content to wait on Millions tilt with ‘special kind of horse’

A tough as teak winner of The Debut (1200m) on the Gold Coast before Christmas to book a Magic Millions berth, the Chris and Corey Munce-trained Vein Girl heads into the showpiece event as one of the real bargain buys, knocked down for a mere $60,000 at the sales.

And on Friday night she can make that initial purchase price appear like nothing more than loose change when she races for a potential $2m payday, comprising the $1.74m first prize along with $325,000 bonus for being the first all-female owned runner across the line.

Two years ago, the last time the Magic Millions meeting was pushed back a week, the Tony Gollan-trained Skirt The Law claimed that very feat for her all-female band of owners.

But while Vein Girl’s connections have their sights set on a share of the $500,000 in spoils set aside for all-female owned runners, it won’t be one-way traffic, with highly fancied pairing Icarian Dream and Invincible Woman two of the other runners in the mix.

“It’s an unbelievable incentive and is bringing more and more females into racing which is great,” Graham said.

“It was after her debut win I got to meet a lot of the owners for the first time and to see the joy it brought them was a real buzz. Hopefully we can bring even more on Friday night.

“The bonus money on offer is amazing so hopefully even if we don’t win, we are in the mix of things for that. It adds another dimension to it all.”

Maher filly ‘thriving’ with extra week for Magic Millions

It was in a late November barrier trial at Deagon that Graham first hopped on the back of Vein Girl and the connection was instant.

“She gave me an electric feel in that trial and it was a heavy track that day,” Graham, who is enjoying another strong season in the saddle, said.

“I remember going home and telling my manager that wherever she goes I want to be there with her and to see and feel her progression has been great.

“The race on Friday night is very strong but it’s open as well and I’ve got a lot of confidence that she’ll run a big race.

“Her attitude fills you with so much confidence.”

Vein Girl is a $17 chance with bookmakers.
