Hockey Australia chief executive Cameron Vale is leaving after nearly four years to join another national federation, believed to be Baseball Australia.

New HA president Melanie Woosnam announced yesterday that Vale would leave on March 3 and general manager of hockey Ben Hartung would step in as the interim CEO while an executive search was launched.

“While we’re disappointed to lose Cam we understand and respect his decision,’’ Woosnam said. “He has achieved a lot in his 3½ years at Hockey Australia, making significant strides in attracting more international content, commercialising the sport, restructuring events and competitions and in implementing our international strategy.’’

“We would also like to reassure our athletes, fans and all of our key stakeholders that it’s business as usual as far as the sport of hockey is concerned.

“As a sport we are now well placed to start a new Olympic cycle and continue the work Cam has begun and look forward to the opportunity this change presents for our sport. We wish Cam and his family all the very best for the future.”
