Aussie Hannah Green ends season on a high with Tour Championship second
Hannah Green made the most of her last tournament until March 2021 by powering home to finish second at the LPGA Tour Championship.
West Australian Hannah Green made the most of her last tournament until March 2021 by powering home to finish second at the lucrative season-ending LPGA Tour Championship.
Green, the 2019 PGA champ, said she felt she was playing so well she wished there was another tournament next week. But instead she will head home to Perth for the first time since August.
On her 24th birthday, Green carded a carded a five-under final round of 67 to finish five shots behind winner Jin Young Ko at Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, Florida.
The impacts of COVID-19 have played havoc with the golf schedule and Green has felt them too.
“I wish there was an event next week because I finally do feel like everything is coming together, but then again, I do want to go back to Australia,” Green said.
“I’ve decided to stay in Australia because I haven’t been there since August. I felt like pretty much two weeks wasn’t going to be enough time at home.
“So I will be returning for the Kia Classic in March. I’m super excited to get back. I’m leaving on Tuesday, arriving to Australia on Thursday, so I’ll be there for just under three months.”
Green said she was opting for the lengthy time at home, and off the LPGA Tour, because of the quarantine restrictions and conceded it could impact her performances next year.
“I think I‘m going to have to sacrifice some big events next year and try and go home for a four, five-week period,” she said.
“I don’t see Australia not doing a two-week hotel quarantine, so I have to allow for that and give myself at least three weeks out of the hotel to get ready.
“It’s going to be unfortunate, but if I do it well I can peak for the right events and hopefully can get more wins and runner-ups.”
Fellow Aussie Minjee Lee faded on the final day to finish in a tie for 13th.
