A Western Sydney Wanderers fan faces a lengthy ban after being evicted for a racist comment aimed at Brisbane Roar goalkeeper Jamie Young during yesterday’s A-League game in Mudgee.

The fan was evicted by security after calling Young a “monkey”. A visibly upset Young reacted immediately, responding “f... off, you racist c...” His reaction was clearly heard during the television broadcast of the game.

Football Federation Australia confirmed the incident and have launched an official investigation. The fan, who was not part of any Wanderers fan group, could face a ban of up to 10 years.

The Wanderers issued a statement this morning, condemning the conduct of the fan.

“This behaviour is deplorable and not acceptable at any Wanderers event, just like it should not be accepted anywhere in society,” the statement said. “We would like to extend a since apology to Jamie Young for being subjected to such behaviour.

“The individual responsible is not to be welcomed back to any Wanderers fixture.”
