Australian talisman Tim Cahill has made his debut in the Indian Super League in a 2-2 draw for Jamshedpur at Bengaluru.

The 38-year-old Socceroos great never looked like scoring as fellow Aussie Erik Paartalu’s Bengaluru dominated the first hour of the match at Sree Kanteerava Stadium.

Cahill was substituted in the 72nd minute as Jamshedpur chased an equaliser after Bengaluru went ahead before halftime when Nishu Kumar volleyed home from outside the box.

They found it 10 minutes after Cahill’s exit through Gourav Mukhi, but Bengaluru forward Sunil Chhetri headed his side back into the lead on 88 minutes.

Chhetri could have killed off the game, striking the post after breaking clear, as Jamshedpur pressed forward in search of an equaliser.

Their endeavour was rewarded with Cidoncha netting a leveller four minutes into stoppage time.

Cahill was ecstatic with his side twice coming from behind to level it.

“Amazing result but what’s more important was the team’s performance and how we never gave up and got the draw in the last minute of the game,” he tweeted.

The veteran reserved particular praise for goalscorer Gourav Mukhi and second-half substitute Mobashir Rahman.

“Our young stars are improving every day,” Cahill wrote. “So proud of Gourav tonight because this is what every kid dreams about scoring on there (sic) debut.

“Also Mobashir was outstanding tonight. It’s a pleasure to work with these youngsters.”

The last-ditch draw took Jamshedpur TO second on the table after the first two matches of the season.
