Soccer: Matildas pair Sam Kerr and Caitlin Foord hit the back of net in huge wins for Chelsea and Arsenal

It was a good weekend for Sam Kerr and Caitlin Foord in the English FA Women’s Super League, but it was the opposite for their Matildas teammates Mackenzie Arnold and Emily van Egmond.

Matildas captain Sam Kerr scored for the second week in succession in Chelsea’s 9-0 English FA Women’s Super League thrashing of Bristol City.

Kerr was the scorer of Chelsea[s final goal, with nine different players netting for the London club.

It was also a good weekend for Kerr’s Matildas’ teammate Caitlin Foord, who found the back of the net in her Arsenal side’s 9-1 thumping of West Ham.

But Foord’s joy came at the expense of West Ham’s Australian pair, goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold and substitute Emily van Egmond.

Arsenal’s Australian coach Joe Montemurro was full of praise for Foord, who had to wait until the 59th minute to enter the contest.

“Caitlin is working so hard in training, she’s just missed out on the starting 11 due to the great start we’ve had,” Montemurro told The Women’s Game.

“I’ve discussed this with Caitlin quite a lot but we just want to start building her rhythm and her confidence.”

“I’m so pleased with her and she’s going to take this league by storm, whether it’s coming off the bench or whether she’s starting. She is already showing those qualities.”

Foord’s Matildas and Arsenal teammate Steph Catley was forced off in the 19th minute after being on the receiving end of a hit to the back.

“Steph is fine. There was a little bit of precaution because she was a little bit groggy,” Montemurro said

“Coming into the international break she should be fine and back to training this week and rested and ready for the upcoming games.”

Meanwhile, another Matilda, winger Hayley Raso, helped Everton to a 1-0 win over Tottenham.
