Ronaldo wins 2017 Ballon d’Or
Cristiano Ronaldo has beaten out Lionel Messi and Neymar to claim a record-equalling fifth world player of the year award.
Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo has beaten out Lionel Messi and Neymar to claim a record-equalling fifth Ballon d’Or award for football world player of the year.
The win is Ronaldo’s fourth in the past five years, with Messi last clinching the coveted title in 2015.
The award comes following a highly successful last 12 months for the Portuguese star, who won La Liga, the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup with his club, along with FIFA’s own award for player of the year.
England and Tottenham striker Harry Kane finished 10th in the count, with Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante (seventh) the highest-ranked Premier League player.
Incredibly, seven Real Madrid players finished in the top 30.
The last 10 awards have been shared between both Ronaldo and Messi during an unprecedented period of personal dominance.
