Under pressure Brisbane Roar coach Robbie Fowler is feeling the frustrations of his team’s difficulties in hitting the target following their 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

Roar remain the only team this A-League season yet to score a first-half goal and have just two wins to sit equal last with the Jets.

The Liverpool legend has been under the pump in recent weeks as results have soured, but he urged fans to be patient after salvaging a draw with a late goal at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday.

“You’ve got to remember, we’re a brand new team. We’ve got a load of lads who have come into the squad, into the set-up and into the team,” Fowler said. “For what we are now from what we were last year, Brisbane Roar as a side, I think it’s chalk and cheese.

“We look as though we’re a handful, we look as though we can give all the teams a game. In terms of possession. We know the most important stat is the scoreline but we know we’re close.

“Of course it’s frustrating because we want to win the game, we will win games.”

Saturday’s draw follows a trend of Roar dominating possession and territory only to be left wanting up front.

They finished the match with 54 per cent possession and 58 per cent territory, but had just three shots on target for one goal – a Bradden Inman shot in the 87th minute.

However, the one point could also be attributed to Brisbane goalkeeper Jamie Young who pulled off two brilliant saves in the dying minutes. One after he was down injured having copped a ball to the face, which will require stitches.

“He’s a good keeper. He’s come back into the side and his attitude has been first class,” Fowler said.

“We want all the lads to have the same attitude.

“That’s a testament to the lad when he’s pulling off saves like that when we could have had a foul. It’s a game we felt we could have got more out of.”
