New congress for FFA after members, A-League club vote
Football Federation Australia will have a new congress after member federations and A-League clubs voted for constitutional amendments.
Football Federation Australia will have a new congress after member federations and the A-League clubs voted to amend the governing body’s constitution.
After almost three years of in-fighting and football politics, the fight for reform of the game was decided at a special meeting at FFA’s offices today.
It is understood the vote for change to the constitution, which will see a broader base of the game being given a great say, was passed 8-2.
As a result, it will almost certainly see FFA chairman Steven Lowy carry out his decision to stand down as chairman at FFA’s AGM next month.
The new congress is expected to convene next month to elect a number of new directors with reports suggesting that a number of current directors will follow Lowy out the door of the FFA.
A second resolution was passed unanimously today with all nine member federations and the A-League club’s voting to allow a working group to produce a new model for the A-League. The model is expected to provide independence for the national competition.
The model is expected to be in place by March.
