Livestream: Five days and 147 games from the National Youth Girls Football Championships (National Youth Championships (NYC))

While 51 goals in 15 games on the opening day of the NYC girls tournament is momentous enough, the sheer quality of them was fitting for any tournament. Relive every one of them in the REPLAYS.

There were stunning strikes and some wonderful attacking football on show as it rained goals on an action-packed opening day of the National Youth Championships in Coffs Harbour.

In the first event held since 2019, an incredible 51 goals fell across the 15 games at the Coffs International Stadium.

The tone was set right from the outset, with the South Australia Red under 16s team scoring the first goal of the tournament just two minutes into the first game of the day.

Although they took an early lead against Northern NSW, it was the hosts who made their presence felt with some sparkling final-third football in the comprehensive 6-1 victory.

Emma Dundas starred for Northern NSW, bagging a brace in a classy all-round performance.

The goals were also flowing during Western Australia’s 5-1 victory over Northern Territory in the under 14s.

Striker Macey McCready bagged an incredible four goals in the match, combining well with winger Mabel Wilkinson in a dominant performance.

In other games, the Queensland Maroon under 16 team was impressive in its 4-0 victory over Western Australia, NSW Metro were far too good for Northern NSW in the under 14s, winning 5-0, while the NSW Metro under 16 team played some slick football in its 3-1 victory over the ACT’s Capital Football team.

While the number of goals was impressive, the sheer quality of them was fitting for any tournament.

In the first time slot of the day, Queensland Maroon’s Mia Green scored an absolute screamer of a free kick from 30 metres out in her team’s 2-1 loss to Victoria Blue in the under 16s, while NSW Country’s Maddison Harris put in an early contender for goal of the tournament with a stunning 40-metre strike that looped over Tasmania’s goalkeeper.

Elsewhere, in the under 16s clash between NSW Metro and Capital Football, the Canberra team’s Reilly Yuen grabbed the headlines with a wonderful solo goal.

Picking the ball up near the sideline and 35 metres out from goal, Yuen took on her defender, drove into the box and then slotted her shot around NSW Metro’s keeper in one of the goals of the day.

While there was some wonderful football played in every game, there were worldies galore in NSW Metro’s 3-1 win over Victoria Blue in the under 14s.

NSW Metro’s Skye Halmarick opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a brilliant turn and strike from 30 metres out. Not to be outdone, teammate Talia Younis made it 2-0 after picking the ball up 25 metres from goal and smashing it over the keeper early in the second half.

One minute later NSW Metro was at it again, with Amelia Bennett this time shooting from 25 metres and putting the ball into the top corner with a stunning strike.

However it wasn’t just NSW Metro contributing to the highlights reel, with Victoria Blue’s Leyla Hussein smashing an incredible volley from the top of the box into the top corner to give her side a consolation goal late in the match.

And while there were plenty of contenders for goal of the day, there was a clear winner in terms of the post-goal celebrations, with all 11 players of Western Australia’s under 16s team linking up to form a rowboat after Angelique Clayton opened the scoring in the team’s 3-0 victory over South Australia Blue in the under 16s division.
