Daniel Arzani’s debut for Celtic has ended in disaster with the Australian wonder kid suffering a possible serious knee injury that will likely rule him out of the Socceroos Asian Cup defence.

Coming on as a 57th minute substitute during Celtic’s 5-0 demolition of Dundee in a Scottish Premier League match yesterday morning (Australian time), Arzani was doing well until he got his studs caught in the turn before falling in agony.

After several minutes he was eventually stretchered off, but not before waving to the Celtic fans in appreciation of their support.

The injury left the Hoops a man down for the remainder of the match, which they won 5-0 with fellow Socceroo Tom Rogic opening the scoring on 20 minutes.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers gave little away regarding the extent of the injury expect to say the 19-year-old will undergo scans tomorrow.

Rodgers had been impressed by Arzani’s 20-minute cameo.

“He is a talented boy. It has taken a bit of adapting to our style of football and our game but he has settled in very, very well and is building up his confidence,” Rodgers told Celtic TV.

“He is happy to take the ball ... he has confidence. He is a Celtic player in terms of he wants to beat people, he wants to be aggressive.

“It was nice for him and Lewis Morgan to come into the game and show their qualities. Unfortunately he got injured, we’ll have to see how that is.

“He’s a really, really good kid. He’s a super bright boy, he wants to do well for Celtic. We’ll just have to see tomorrow. He’ll probably going to need a scan on his knee.”

Socceroos coach Graham Arnold will be holding his breath for better news regarding Arzani, who is regarded as one of the biggest talents this country has produced.

Arzani, who burst on the scene with Melbourne City last season before being signed by Manchester City then loaned out to Celtic in August, would have been an integral part of the national team for the Asian Cup defence in the UAE in January.
