Bruno Fornaroli sorry for his victory-speech clanger
It was the moment that turned the air blue, raised eyebrows and caused a commotion on social media.
It was the moment that turned the air blue, raised eyebrows and sparked a commotion on social media, but Melbourne City captain Bruno Fornaroli appears to be in the clear after his controversial FFA Cup winners’ acceptance speech on Wednesday night.
Fans at the ground and those watching on television could hardly believe their ears when the diminutive Uruguayan, who had also been named man of the match, ended his speech with the clearly audible words “and
f..k off”.
According to Fornaroli, he meant to say vamos (Spanish for let’s go), but got caught up in the moment.
“I went to say vamos, nothing more,” a sheepish Fornaroli explained yesterday.
“In this moment, everyone enjoying to win the cup for the first time ... it was amazing.
“I wanted to say vamos but I say something different.
“If someone feel bad for this, I say sorry. It is not this way. I want to say vamos.”
Neither City nor Football Federation Australia will take action against Fornaroli, though he will be reminded of his position and the need to express himself with more care in future situations.
