Andrew Redmayne in no rush to sign new Sydney FC contract
Sydney FC goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne says club success will drive the decision on his future.
Sydney FC goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne says club success will drive the decision on his future but has cooled talks of a possible re-signing with the Sky Blues.
Contract negotiations with the two-time championship-winning goalkeeper are moving at a steady pace but sources close to the negotiations suggest an announcement isn’t expected in the immediate future.
The one-time Socceroo is one of the last of Sydney FC’s big names yet to sign a contract extension after the Sky Blues secured Milos Ninkovic, Michael Zullo and coach Steve Corica on multi-year contracts.
“Sydney FC is an environment I relish being a part of and I owe a lot to Sydney for my successes,” Redmayne said.
“We’re in conversations at the moment but I’m not focusing on that. My full focus is on the football in the immediate future.”
Redmayne said trophies and success will drive his decision on his playing future, which could involve continuing to work under Corica, who signed a two-year extension last week.
“You play football for success and we have an amazing group of players that know how to get a job done,” he said.
“Steve Corica has been here his entire tenure as a player and coach and under Arnie, with him there is no complacency in this squad.
“If there are any tall poppies in the change room they are quickly whipped down to size.
“We’re a team of farmers in that regard.”
Sydney FC are also yet to re-sign midfielder Luke Brattan, as well as a number of young talents such as Ryan Teague, Marco Tilio and Harry Van Der Saag.
Redmayne had interest from clubs in the English second division earlier this season, but club sources say those talks have since quietened down.
