Watch: Warner’s grand SCG arrival by helicopter ahead of sold out Sydney Smash

David Warner has made his way to the Sydney Smash in style after commandeering a helicopter from the Hunter Valley to the SCG. Watch the video.

David Warner arrives for BBL match via helicopter

David Warner has arrived in style at the SCG via helicopter ahead of his Big Bash return for the Sydney Thunder against the Sixers.

After attending his brother’s wedding in the Hunter Valley early on Friday afternoon, he and wife Candice Warner made the 45-minute flight down to the famous ground.

Departing from Cessnock Airport, the pair took the trip along the coast, flying over the Central Coast, Manly and Sydney Harbour before arriving at Moore Park.

A hoard of media gathered at the SCG to capture the 37-year-old’s arrival, and he didn’t disappoint with the pilot adding to the theatrics.

The helicopter did a lap of the ground, coming into view from over the Ladies Pavillion, before landing in front of the famous Member’s Stand just before 5pm.

The recently retired opener got out of the helicopter and raised his arms to the scattered onlookers around the ground before doing a prerecorded interview with Channel 7.

“It was good, it was quite cool,” Warner said.

“To see Sydney from up above on a cracking day was amazing.

“It was amazing to see my brother wed with his wife, Emily. It was a great evening.

“The reception starts at 6-6.30, so I might be able to make it up in time.

“I’ve done my utmost best to get down here and hopefully put some runs on the board. I might look like a bit of a goose if I don’t get any runs but it’s my contribution to not just the BBL but Australian cricket.

“I want to be out here. I want to entertain. I want to try and help our team win the next three games.”

While all eyes were on Warner on the ground, his former Test teammate Steve Smith was practising in the nets to prepare for the game.

Smith himself had to make a quick dash up to Sydney on Friday morning after appearing at the Australian Open for a pre-tournament event with Novak Djokovic.

In a major contrast to Warner’s arrival, Sixers bowler Sean Abbott lived up to his words on Thursday and arrived at the SCG by an electric bike.
