JHYE RICHARDSON (SCORCHERS)
$144,400 BWL
Richardson showed exactly why he’s been a must-have player in SuperCoach for several years in round 1, taking 3-19 to spearhead Perth’s victory over Melbourne Stars. The Scorchers quick had the second best SuperCoach average in BBL12 (79.7). He averages a wicket every 16 balls in the BBL and is a captaincy option for round 2.
JASON BEHRENDORFF (SCORCHERS)
$166,500 BWL
Behrendorff scored the all-important 20th over against the Stars, taking death-bowling duties from Andrew Tye. While it remains to be seen whether that continues, it increases the SuperCoach appeal of the big left-armer. He’s one of the most expensive Scorchers and will be a point-of-difference option compared to Richardson and Cooper Connolly.
COOPER CONNOLLY (SCORCHERS)
$133,800 BAT-BWL
Connolly capitalised on his chance at No. 3 in the absence of Aaron Hardie, scoring his first Big Bash fifty against the Stars. He’s almost certain to shuffle down the order when Hardie returns, but that looks unlikely to be in round 2. If Connolly bats at three twice and can pick up a few overs, he could be one of the top scorers in Perth’s double. The 21-year-old is already in 30.7 per cent of SuperCoach teams.
ANDREW TYE (SCORCHERS)
$137,300 BWL
The veteran seamer can never be discounted in SuperCoach BBL. Tye has long been one of the best death bowlers in the BBL and although he disappointed against the Stars (0-30 from three overs) it would not surprise if Tye bounced back in a big way. Tye has taken at least 10 wickets in each of his past nine BBL campaigns.
MATT SHORT (STRIKERS)
$288,700 BAT-BWL
The Strikers captain and SuperCoach stud was one of the most popular choices to start BBL14, featuring in 54 per cent of teams. But those who took the risk and faded Short will be able to get him for less than $300k after he scored 41 points against the Thunder (60 below his break even). Be prepared to use one of your two boosts, if necessary, to make sure you have Short for round 2. He’s the No. 1 captaincy choice.
JAMIE OVERTON (STRIKERS)
$214,600 BAT-BWL
The big Englishman isn’t far behind Short on the list of must-have Strikers. Overton bats in the top six and is all but guaranteed four overs every game — including bowling at the death. Overton averaged 70.3 points a game in BBL13 and had five round scores of 72 points or more. His role in the Strikers’ side is perfect for SuperCoach.

JAMES BAZLEY (STRIKERS)
$70,000 BAT-BWL
Two seasons after averaging 53.5 SuperCoach points, Bazley returned to relevance when he scored 31 off 12 balls against Sydney Thunder on Tuesday night. Although his price makes Bazley an attractive trade option for round 2, he comes with a warning. Short only used him for one over in the Thunder’s chase and Bazley is unlikely to bat every game at No.8. If injured all-rounder Fabian Allen’s replacement is a bowler, Bazley could get promoted to No. 7 though.

JAKE WEATHERALD (STRIKERS)
$120,400 BAT
Back at the top of the order and back in the runs. Weatherald has made a strong start to the summer for Tasmania and that translated to the BBL as he cracked 40 off 19 balls against the Thunder, hitting eight boundaries. Picking BAT only players in SuperCoach is fraught with danger, but with two guaranteed hits and the introduction of best 11, some of that risk is mitigated.
JACK WOOD (HEAT)
$63,900 BAT-BWL
Wood’s job security is sketchy, with Colin Munro due back as soon as Sunday to open the batting with Jimmy Peirson. But, there’s no denying Wood’s upside either. He’s featured in the Cayman Islands T10 and the Hong Kong Sixes this year and although those competitions are off-broadway, Wood showed he can hit a big ball. Wood made 27 from 21 balls against the Stars, hitting three fours and a six. There’s potential he drops to No.4 or No.6 when Munro returns, but he could also drop out of the team entirely. If not, he’s got money to make ahead of Brisbane’s round 3 double.
