Shane Warne’s parents have spoken of their shock at the passing of their beloved son who died of a suspected heart attack while on holiday in Thailand.

Hours after the 52-year-old’s death was confirmed via a statement from his manager, Warne’s mother Brigitte shared a few words with the Herald Sun.

“We’re just in shock,” she said outside of their Black Rock home, before adding “we’re OK,”

Ms Warne then spoke of the rainy weather, before returning inside.

Warne’s father, Keith, did not wish to provide a comment but said he would speak publicly at a more appropriate time.

The leg-spin legend’s brother, Jason, arrived at the house with other family members shortly afterwards to mourn with the family.

Warne’s family has been offered a state funeral by Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews.

“To us, he was the greatest – but to his family, he was so much more,” Mr Andrews said.

“Our hearts are breaking for Shane’s family and friends – and they are in the thoughts of all Victorians.

“I have offered a state funeral to his family so Victorians can pay tribute to his legacy and contribution to our state, community and country.”

Warne was found unresponsive by friends in a villa he was staying at in Koh Samui, Thailand.

His manager Andrew Neophitou is understood to have attempted CPR in a bid to revive him before an ambulance arrived.

Warne was taken to the Thai International Hospital where he was pronounced dead following a suspected heart attack.

Chatchawin Nakmusik of the Bo Put police told Reuters that Warne’s body had been transferred to another hospital for autopsy and his friends would be questioned by police on Saturday — but added there were no signs of foul play.

A statement was put out after midnight Australian time from Warne’s management advising that Warne had died suddenly just hours after he had himself paid tribute to another cricket legend in Rod Marsh.

“It is with great sadness we advise that Shane Keith Warne passed away of a suspected heart attack in Koh Samui, Thailand, today, Friday 4th March,” said the statement put out by Warne’s long-time manager, James Erskine.

“Shane was found unresponsive in his Villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived.

“The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.”

Mentone Grammar has paid its respects to Warne, who captained the school’s first XI to a premiership in 1987.

The school said it was left shocked by the passing of “a beloved Mentonian”.

“He remains an inspiration to our cricketers today, and does so for many around the world,” a statement said.

“We mourn the loss of this sporting great and our thoughts and prayers are with his family, especially his three children, at this devastating time.”
