Jaiswal’s drop, Bumrah’s magic highlight the best moments from day 4 at the MCG

A rapid batting collapse looked to have paved the way for India to claim a dominant position in Melbourne, but one moment of madness could have spared Australia.

'Luckeist pair I've ever seen': Bumrah has laugh while he terrorizes Australia

Another thrilling day of Test match action has the fourth Test all to play for on day five, as Australia saved themselves from an astonishing battle collapse.

Daniel Cherny and Robert Craddock pick out the biggest and best moments from day four at the ’G.

OH NO

Talk about a spirit killer.

The Indian team thought they had ended the Australia innings in the last over of the day when Nathan Lyon edged the great Jasprit Bumrah to KL Rahul who juggled and regained in the slips.

The players were walking off the ground when the call came through it was a no-ball and the pain was accentuated a few minutes later when Lyon edged that last ball of the day from Bumrah for four.

FAB FOUR

Defiant Scott Boland hit his first ever MCG Test four when he took Australia’s lead over 300 with a slash over slips from Mohammed Siraj.

Most appropriately, it crossed the rope just in front of a boisterous Bay 13 where Boland is a cult hero.

DROP THAT MAY SHAPE THE SERIES

With Australia 6-99 and staring down the barrel of a third innings nightmare, Marnus Labuschagne played a late cut off Akash Deep that flew to Yashasvi Jaiswal at gully. India’s opener put it down, perhaps letting the Border-Gavaskar Trophy slip through his grasp too. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma thrashed his arm in anger. Jaiswal had already spilled a chance to remove Usman Khawaja and it wouldn’t be his last drop of the day either.

OUT OR NOT??

Was it out? Australia certainly thought so when Mohammed Siraj edged Pat Cummins to Steve Smith in the cordon early on day four. It was sent upstairs to third umpire Sharfuddoula who judged it not out, with the inference being that the ball had been hit into the ground before flying to Smith. But Cummins then tried to review the call, feeling that it had been hit on the up. In the end it didn’t really matter, with the innings ending the following over without another run being scored.

BOX OFFICE BATTLE

Here’s a reasonable way to silence the upstart kid. There were no reverse scoops this time as Sam Konstas fell to Jasprit Bumrah, who had the ball dancing back into the teen opener to take the top of middle stump and send Australia’s boy wonder on his way for eight. And India’s spearhead celebrated with plenty of gusto too.

MARSHING ORDERS

Australia had seemingly been in control with Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne at the crease, but the hasty fall of Smith and Travis Head brought the struggling Mitch Marsh to the crease. It was officially bedlam at the ‘G when Bumrah claimed his 201st Test wicket as Marsh gloved the Indian superstar in what could be the West Australian’s final Test Innings.
