Former Australian cricket captain Ian Chappell has called for heads to roll at the top echelons of Australia Cricket administration, arguing it is unfair for only the players to face sanctions.

Chappell hit back at the administration on the ABC’s 7.30 report this evening, in wake of Simon Longstaff’s review on the culture of cricket. Chappell told viewers that CA Chairman David Peever, and CEO, Kevin Roberts, “have to go.”

“The core complaint is that the organisation does not respect anyone other than its own. Players feel that they are treated as commodities,” the Longstaff Review claimed.

“I said at the time I think they did Smith and Warner a favour,” Chappell said, “What I would add to that is that if they are banned and no administrators are tossed out on their backside, then this isn’t going to help marry this up again. Quite rightly the players are going to be angry about that … they’ve (the players) copped it in the neck.”

Chappell disagreed with Peever saying that the board was accountable, calling the response to the ball tampering a joke.

“Well didn’t he say the buck stops with me?” Chappell asked, “If the buck stops with him he’d be gone, because when it occurred, when the fiasco happened I said if only three people — being Smith, Warner and Bancroft, if only three people get it in the neck then it’s a joke. Well I think it’s now officially a joke.”
