A $40,000 Mercedes is the only asset listed in the will of Dean Jones, which declares the late Australian cricketer had no other personal assets in Victoria or elsewhere.

Supreme Court documents list the 2018 sedan and a share in a company valued at $2 as the only personal assets left by the late cricket great.

The documents, lodged with the court, reveal Jones had a shareholding in a private company, Dean Jones Family Trust, of which the $2 company is listed as a trustee.

Jones played 52 Test matches and carved out a reputation as a swashbuckling one-day batsman. The 59-year-old died on September 24, 2020 in India, after a heart attack in a Mumbai hotel. He was in India to commentate on the 2020 Indian Premier League season.

Jones’s will, dated March 2012, names his widow, Jane Jones, and two daughters, Phoebe and Isabella as the beneficiaries of his estate.

It emerged last week Jones’s 12-year-old son, Koby, the child he had with Kerri-Anne Hamilton, was suing his estate in the Victorian Supreme Court. When news of the relationship broke 10 years ago, Jones released a statement saying; “Following an on-and-off relationship with a woman, a child was conceived and subsequently delivered.

“I can also confirm that I have supported the mother and child more generously than was agreed. At no stage, have I not met my obligations. My immediate aim is to seek the forgiveness and understanding of family.”

A figure familiar with the background said on Friday Jones had been committed to looking after his son and was likely to have made allowances for him outside his will.

While it was reported at the time of his death that Jones had suffered a fatal stroke, his death certificate lodged with the court states “hypertensive heart disease and coronary artery atherosclerosis” as the cause of death.

The Herald Sun reported last week court documents revealed the value of the late cricketer’s estate was “yet to be determined”. The documents claim Jones’s will did not make “adequate provision” for the son, born in 2009. According to the Herald Sun, an originating motion lodged with the court argues Jones “had a moral duty and responsibility” to include his son in his will. “The distribution of the deceased’s estate in accordance with the deceased’s will is such as to not make adequate provision for the proper maintenance and support of (Koby),” it states.
