There was a big shock, a thriller and a win to cheer along with done Covid drama in Rd 3 of 1st Colts. Stars, standouts, result wrap and great photos.
They were labelled the dark horse of the season and Warringah lived up tho their new mantle with a major upset in a fascinating third round of Sydney Rugby Union 1st Colts.
On a spectacular day, Warringah toppled one of the competition favourites, Sydney Uni, in a 28-21 boilover.
It wasn’t the first surprise of the round - that went to the Hunter Wildfires knocking off Eastwood for their first win of the season.
And another result raising eyebrows was Manly keeping Southern Districts scoreless in their match-up at home.
Now just three teams remain undefeated in the competition three games ion with Gordon at the top of the ladders with northern beaches clubs, the Manly Marlins and Warringah Rats, also without a blemish on their scorecards.
Eastern Suburbs, the defending champion round out the top four three points behind after their round one upsets at the hands of Southern Districts .
Wildfires 33 v 24 Eastwood Newcastle Sports Ground.
The Hunter Wildfires pulled off a sensational win over Eastwood in the opener of the round.
After two close encounters in rounds one and two, Hunter finally broke through for their first win of the season with a 33–24 thriller over Eastwood in Newcastle.
H Hattingh, Oscar Affleck, Charlie Moroney and Mitch England were the try scorers with Oscar Davey nailing three conversions.
Luke Muriti, James Butler and Tutu Sorovi scored for Eastwood and Sam Bacon made conversions.
Easts 43 v 12 Norths North Sydney Oval
Easts recorded a convincing 43–12 victory over Northern Suburbs at their home-ground on Saturday.
Hooker Charles Okane and wing Nick Swain scored two tries each for Easts in a good performance.
Cooper Watters, back from Australian U20 camp and a bash against the Japanese U23 side last week, made his presence felt with a try.
Other scorers for Easts were Max Soepono and Louis Fenwicke with Jonty Fowler good with the boot with four conversions.
Norths tighthead prop Taj Mailei went over twice in the match for his club who are winless after three rounds.
Warringah 28 v 21 Sydney Uni Pittwater Rugby Park
In the upset of the round, Warringah pulled off a rousing 28–21 victory over Sydney Uni at Pittwater Rugby Park.
Riley Osborn, Jonah Chitty, Cody Grant and En Hakkorey Pepese all scored tries in the match with Brodie Hitchman converting one and kicking two penalties.
Despite having access to their U20s reps this week, Sydney Uni could not match Warringah.
Archie Campbell, Kami Tuqalo and Dane Mitchell all scored tries for Easts and Sam Sharman converting three
Randwick 47 v 14 Two Blues Nagle Park
Wyatt Ballinger and Matteo Cleverley were standouts in this match for Randwick who dominated the winless Two Blues.
The match saw the return of Kaleb Ah Colt from Australian U20 duties but only for a week with the big prop heading to WA for another camp prior to a series in South Africa.
Ballinger and Cleverley both scored two tries with Ollie Aboud, James Jones and Oscar Jorgensen also going over while Sebastian Elizondo nailed six conversions in an impressive display.
Scorers for the Two Blues were Kelvin Togia and Likari Leota.
Gordon 48 v 5 West Harbour St Luke’s North
For the first week Gordon failed to crack 50 with the side beating West Harbour 48–5 at St Luke’s North.
But there was a reason according to coach Joel Rivers.
Five players were sick during the week with three testing positive to Covid.
Ben Playford was good with the boot as usual with four conversions with the scoring shared around between eight different try scorers.
These were Tunui Jorgensen, Charlie Foster, Charlie Burt, Max Roach, Frederick Powell, Archie McGurk and Louis Pryor
West Harbour‘s only try was scored by Sevuloni Satala
Souths 0 v 52 Manly Manly Oval
In a win, Manly will long remember, the Marlin’s 1st Colts side completely dominated Southern Districts.
Albert Ingleton, Angus Pear, Ethan Hart, Daly’s Esera, Henry Curll, William Hayes, Thomas Hardy Bridgewood and Brody McLaren all scored tries in the match.
Woody Walker converted four and Nicholas Newton did the honours with two.
