Anthony Mundine borrowed $500,00 from Sonny Bill Williams
Details have emerged of a huge loan to Anthony Mundine on the eve of his fight with Danny Green.
Boxer Anthony Mundine borrowed $500,000 from rugby star Sonny Bill Williams before his recent Danny Green super fight to deal with a family emergency.
The Sunday Telegraph has revealed details about the loan, part of a “handshake agreement” between the two long-time friends.
The pair has often described themselves as “Muslim brothers”.
Mundine, 41, would not give any reason as to why he needed the loan on the eve of the February 3 fight. “There were some personal issues I had to sort out quickly,” he told the Telegraph.
In 2008, Williams borrowed $750,000 from Mundine when he walked out on the Canterbury Bulldogs to play rugby union.
The Bulldogs refused to grant Williams, at that time one of the best rugby league players in the game, a release until his contract had been paid out.
The Green-Mundine fight grossed about $15 million, and it’s believed the pair earnt about $4 million each from the controversial bout.
“I’ll pay him back as soon as I get paid next week,” Mundine said.
