SuperCoach NBL trade guide: Who to buy, hold, sell for round 6

He was here as a bargain buy last week and now he is here as a must buy this week. We reveal the players to get you ahead in SuperCoach NBL round 6.

SuperCoach NBL | Round 6 Best Buys

It doesn’t matter if your team is charging or flopping.

Benny, Banksy and Boydie – the Basketball Blokes – are here to assist with tips to help you rebound.

These are the players you should consider buying, holding and selling in your SuperCoach NBL side for round 6.

SELL

Sell of the week: Zylan Cheatham (NZ) $295,400 FWD

Zylan was flying again this week before suffering a small fracture in his foot in the fourth quarter of the Breakers’ first game last round. In what is a bad break for owners, Cheatham will miss the next 6-8 weeks with the aforementioned fracture and is a must trade this week. Thankfully he scored a solid 28 SuperCoach points prior to the injury, earning him a $15.6k price rise.

Others to consider selling ......

Ariel Hukporti (MEL) $249,700 CTR

A big thanks to “Big A” from the 40% of the competition who had Hukporti in their SuperCoach team to start the season. He did everything we could have hoped for, the eighth highest scorer in overall points, a $77.6k price rise including a final $800 to likely top out in price before we move him along.

Melbourne United players

Melbourne United have gone from the best schedule in the league to the equal worst schedule (with the Hawks) over the next five rounds. For those of you who have Chris Goulding, Luke Travers and Shea Ili can now consider moving these players on. We can’t necessarily do it all at once, so consider the Break Even, position eligibility and the player you’re trading in before deciding the order in which you move these players on.

Jaylin Galloway (SYD) $231,400 FWD

For those of you who held Galloway last week, we now have an update that he will be missing more games and will be re-evaluated in three weeks. Thankfully there are some excellent trade-in candidates this week.

BENNY’S BREAK EVENS

Each week Benny will list some of the notable Break Evens for the week ahead – players with low Break Evens are set to rise in price while high Break Evens indicate a looming price drop. Sign up to SuperCoach Plus for the full list of Break Evens plus more stats and tools to help your team.

• Josh Bannan (-18, 2 games)

• Lachlan Olbrich (-3, 1 game)

• Sam Mennenga (14, 2 games)

• Finn Delany (17, 2 games)

• Shea Ili (22, 1 game)

• Jaylen Adams (74, 2 games)

HOLD

Hold of the Week: Patrick Miller (CRN) $325,900 GRD

Miller is the fourth highest averaging player in all of NBL SuperCoach. This is the case despite leaving his last game in the second quarter, having landed on his back after contact in a dunk attempt. There was no discussion of concussion worries on the broadcast, although we know these symptoms can be delayed. Miller did come out after half time but could not overcome the injury to his back and move in a manner to get back out on court.

SuperCoach NBL | Round 6 Best Holds

If Miller is confirmed to miss one round, we still think he is worth holding if you can have cover. Miller was well on his way to scoring 30+ SuperCoach points again before his injury, meaning Jalyen Adams is the only player to have done so in every game thus far. Even with the possibility of Taran Armstrong returning, Miller remains a premium SuperCoach option with an amazing schedule. He can be held. Cairns play in the first game on Friday afternoon, so we should be able to take advantage of the rolling lockout and adjust to any game time decision outcomes.

Milton Doyle (TAS) $324,100 GRD

The 13% of the competition who own Milton Doyle will no doubt be considering getting off. Even though the schedule looks poor with back-to-back single game rounds, we need to remember that all teams only play one game in round 7; and the JackJumpers have an important double game round in round 8. Whilst there are reasons to sell Doyle, just be aware that he has the best possible schedule after this week for the following two rounds.

BANKSY’S BARGAINS

Each week Banksy will rank his favourite bargain players regardless of schedule.

1. Josh Bannan (BRI) $113,000 FWD

If he was here as a bargain buy last week, he is here as a must buy this week. Those who jumped on Bannan following his six point SuperCoach debut would have been thrilled with 28 and 30 SuperCoach point games across Round 5. He rewarded owners with a $44k price bump and for non-owners, he will head into Round 6 with a -18 breakeven. The 34 and 27 minute games were exactly what we needed to see to jump on board, and although Baynes is slated to return, Bannan should continue to grab his share of boards following 16 across the round.

2. Lachlan Olbrich (ILL) $96,200 CTR/FWD

Olbrich kicked off Round 5 with a much better 20 SuperCoach point outing, which included a couple of blocks and a steal in his 23 minutes played. We were hoping to see more of the same against United in his second game of the round, but unfortunately Olbrich was in foul trouble for much of the game which resulted in just the 12 minutes played. With that being said, he will head into Round 6 with a -6 breakeven, a week where many will be searching for a downgrade or upgrade option for Hukporti as United moves into a string of single game rounds, and Olbrich makes for a viable downgrade bench option.

3. Taran Armstrong (CRN) $69,000 GRD

As the season goes on, cash cows and downgrades will become few and far between. Taran Armstrong was one of the must own cash cows in the preseason, and if it wasn’t for his unfortunate injury just prior to Cairns first game in Round one, he would likely be in most SuperCoach teams already. He was a game time decision in Round 5, but it is now reported he will be making his long awaited return in Round 6. If you are hunting for a cheap downgrade target, Taran is your guy. Do you bring him in this week, or wait and watch with intention to trade him in next week? He makes for a great bench downgrade, but remember his SuperCoach price will not change until he has played three games. Also keep an eye on Patrick Miller. He missed the last half of last game after a dangerous fall, and if he is to miss time, Taran will be a beneficiary.

4. Finn Delany (NZ) $219,200 FWD

As was a theme last week, injuries create opportunity. Delany hasn’t set the world on fire to date, but Round 5 was easily his best showing so far. Zylan Cheatham went down in the third quarter against Adelaide with a foot fracture that will keep him sidelined for the next 6-8 weeks whilst Finn finished with a team high 32 SuperCoach points. In the following game where Zylan sat, Delany played a team high 29 minutes for a further 28 SuperCoach points, which ranked him eighth best in total points for the week. He is priced at around 19 SuperCoach points, and after playing just 18 minutes last week, he played just shy of 30 minutes a game in his two games this week and looks to benefit whilst Cheatham is out.

5. Kristian Doolittle (PER) $171,500 FWD

A complete point of difference, considering he sits in a total of just 23 teams, but Doolittle has now shed $105k from his starting price. He was eased in after joining the team late in the preseason, and played just two minutes before going down with injury against Melbourne back in Round 3. His score of just two SuperCoach points in that game resulted in a price plummet over the last two weeks, but that score will drop out of his breakeven this week. At $171k Doolittle has played 30 minutes in each of Perth’s past two games. This has resulted in scores of 22 and 23 SuperCoach point games, whilst being priced at 14.

BUY

Buy of the Week: Josh Bannan (BRI) $113,000 FWD

Following a six point game impacting his first price rise, Josh went bananas in round 5 with scores of 28 and 30 SuperCoach points. He is listed as number one in Banksy’s Bargains and for good reason. However, arguably more impressive for his long term SuperCoach production is the minutes played in round 5. He played 34 and 27 minutes last round which wildly exceeded our expectations having come off a knee injury. Baynes is due back soon which will impact Tyrell Harrison and Rocco Zikarsky’s playing time more so than it will Bannan’s. Baynes return may make it harder for Bannan to accrue double-doubles as he did this week, regardless, Bannan is a must own cash-cow and could be potentially playable on the starting court where the schedule supports it.

BOYDIE’S BEST BUYS

Each week Boydie will rank the other best buys for the week ahead.

1. Sam Waardenburg (CRN) $271,900 FWD/CTR

He was on our best buys last week and this week he climbs up to our top buy other than the Buy of the Week above of course! Burger (Waardenburg) had 60 SuperCoach points for round 5 and is now averaging 26.4 for the season. With Cairns’ sensational schedule, a low Break Even of 36 and Centre/Forward dual-position eligibility, Sam is one of, it not, the best set and forget replacements for all the coaches out there with Hukporti having been your starting centre from Round 1.

2. Parker Jackson-Cartwright (NZ) $364,300 GRD

PJC or the Hyphen is still a buy this week coming off being the top scorer for Round 5 with 73 SuperCoach points. He is averaging almost 41 points a game and his Break Even is still relatively low with 55. If you need a guard that might also be a great Captain option (pending Banksy’s Captains of course) he would need to be in your calculations.

3. Bryce Cotton (PER) $374,600 GRD

So, if it isn’t PJC you’re bringing into your backcourt, Cotton should be the next name on your list. While he has decreased in price just over $90k for the season to date, there is reason to believe Bryce has bottomed out in price and the only way is up from here (well Perth fans hope anyway!). Averaging 30.3 for the season, coming off a 31 in Round 5 but with scores of 38, 37 and 36 earlier in NBL24, I’m backing Cotton in; and maybe you should too, despite the red flag of a 68 Break Even.

4. Keanu Pinder (PER) $377,700 FWD/CTR

The man in the mask appears to be hitting some great form, just in time for Perth’s equal best schedule over the next 3 rounds. Averaging 30.9 for the season, Pinder has scores of 32 and 50 in his last two games. He is a great option again for the coaches looking for a replacement for Hukporti at that Centre starting spot for the next three rounds albeit with a slight red flag of a high Break Even of 68 for the round ahead.

5. Alan Williams (SEM) $400,100 CTR

Big Sauce as he is affectionately known, has been getting it done since his return from injury that delayed his start to NBL24. In his three games he has SuperCoach scores of 38, 36 and 46 making his average of 40 just below that of league leading PJC’s. Williams has match-ups with the Bullets, whom he scored that 36 on and a somewhat BIG centre-less Cairns. This points to Big Sauce taking care of business again this round before SEM’s schedule falls away for a few weeks. Could a two week rental of Big Sauce and making him Captain help you climb the rankings?

6. Nathan Sobey (BRI) $336,600 GRD

Nathan Sobey continues to reward the 10% SuperCoach owners out there who own Sobey with 64 SuperCoach points across Round 5. Brisbane has another double Round 6 so Sobey might still be a great option for those a bit short of cash for PJC or Cotton this round.

7. Finn Delany (NZ) $219,200 FWD

Finn found some form in Round 5 with 60 SuperCoach points. Is he the one at NZ that picks up points while Zylan Cheatham is out with injury over the next few rounds?

8. Bobi Klintman (CRN) $215,100 FWD

9. Bul Kuol (CRN) $196,300 GRD/FWD
