Josh Giddey’s stellar NBA season to date has copped a blow after the in-form Australian guard injured the same ankle he hurt during Australia’s Olympic campaign in Paris.

Giddey limped off injured in the fourth quarter of Chicago’s big 121-103 win over the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday.

The Boomers star was dominating the Pacers, dropping season-high 29 points (11/18 FG) to go with 10 rebounds in 28 minutes before he was forced off the floor after falling awkwardly on his ankle while attempting a spin move to the basket.

Bulls head coach Billy Donovan confirmed Giddey – who immediately left the court for the dressing room – suffered a sprained right ankle.

There is hope the injury isn’t long-term, but it is concerning given it is the ankle he tweaked in the Olympic quarter-final loss to Serbia.

The former NBL Next Star has been brilliant for the Bulls this season, with the franchise handing him the keys to run the team’s offence.

Giddey has produced a double-double in eight of his last nine games, while he has scored in double figures in each of those nine games.

Bulls and Boomers fans will be hoping the gun guard’s ankle isn’t serious and he can return to round out a stellar NBA campaign with Chicago.

Another double-double for Giddey, he continues to make a case for his upcoming contract negotiation.
