West Coast AFLW coach Daisy Pearce makes surprise appearance at Subiaco WAFLW training

West Coast coach and AFLW legend Daisy Pearce has popped up at a WAFLW training session in Perth, leading one coach to declare “it would be fantastic to have someone of her stature playing in the competition.”

AFLW's sweet grand final presentation puts the AFL to shame

West Coast AFLW coach Daisy Pearce has proven that she’s still got it two years after her AFLW retirement by lending a hand at Subiaco WAFLW training.

The training cameo was initiated by Pearce and Subiaco head coach Baker Denneman, who is currently the Eagles’ midfield coach.

Pearce joined the Lions pre-Christmas to get a taste of state league football.

Subiaco finished 5th last season, just missing out on finals.

But the Lions are set to field a youthful and exciting list in 2025 headlined by AFLW National Academy stars and draft prospects Olivia Wolmarans and Olivia Crane.

“Daisy has been a tremendous source of support for me since joining the club,” Denneman told CODE Sports.

“She came down to training for a look, and to see what it’s all about but Daisy in her typical fashion couldn’t help herself but get involved and kick a few footballs in.

“She is a wealth of knowledge and highly skilled in the fundamentals of the game. Her presence and the character that she is allowed for the girls to gain plenty from the session.”

While Denneman said there are currently no concrete plans in place for Pearce to take to the field in 2025, he said that it would be a spectacle if she did.

Others with knowledge of the situation believe that Pearce could be swayed to play a handful of games in a major boost to the WAFLW competition.

“It would be fantastic to have someone of her stature playing in the competition,” he said.”

“Everyone in WA would love to see players of her calibre be apart of the state competition.”

Pearce played a charity clash against Fremantle coach Lisa Webb in 2024.
