Adelaide forward Tyson Stengle’s future with the Crows is clouded after the club stood him down for his third serious disciplinary breach of 2020.

The Crows released a statement on Monday that said they were investigating the 22-year-old over an incident.

It is understood, Adelaide was provided with a photo of Stengle on Sunday which prompted a club investigation.

The Crows subsequently informed the AFL, the AFL Integrity Unit and the AFL Players Association.

The Advertiser has reported that the image relates to an incident that took place after Stengle was caught with drugs in the city with former teammate Brad Crouch in September.

It’s another unwanted headache for the Crows, coming the day after young player Josh Worrell was pulled over for using his phone while driving and was found to have a blood alcohol reading of 0.056 – just over the legal limit.

Worrell had stayed the night at a teammate’s house and was driving home when stopped by police. He has not been charged but is expected to be issued with an expiation notice.

“Adelaide is aware of an off-field matter involving young forward Tyson Stengle who has been stood down from all club duties effective immediately as the club ascertains all relevant details on the situation,” a statement reads.

“The club is working closely with the AFL and AFL Players Association, as well as Stengle’s management in relation to this matter.

“While the club acknowledges there will be significant media and public interest, it is not in a position to make further comment at this stage. More information will be provided as soon as possible.”

Stengle, who started his career with Richmond and has played 14 games for the Crows over the past two years, faced court over a drink-driving offence in April.

Adelaide banned him for four weeks after he registered a blood-alcohol reading of 0.125 when stopped by police for driving an unregistered vehicle.

He was fined more than $1600 after pleading guilty to several driving charges related to the incident in October.

Stengle’s court appearance came a month after police found he and Crouch, who has since joined St Kilda in a high-profile trade, in possession of an illicit substance believed to be cocaine in late September.

The AFL issued Stengle with a four match ban and Crouch with a two-game suspension, which will be served at the start of 2021, as part of a penalty which included both players being issued with a strike under the league’s Illicit Drugs Policy.
