Pure Footy - episode 12 2022

He’s Mr Everywhere and there is no sign of Kane Cornes’ domination of the AFL media landscape easing up anytime soon.

In fact, he’s now enlisted his family to keep it going.

Cornes’ 15-year-old son Eddy wants to follow in his father’s footsteps and he certainly made an impressive start with a comprehensive NBA Finals preview on the SEN website.

Eddy is a mad Golden State Warriors fan, so it was certainly a passion project and one which was very well received.

Football isn’t on Eddy’s agenda. The aspiring writer wants to head to the US to study journalism.

AFL PULLS EX-COACH FROM RADIO SLOT

The AFL has pulled former Adelaide coach and Collingwood assistant Brenton Sanderson off the airwaves.

Sanderson had been doing a weekly strategy segment on Gerard Whateley’s morning show as well as being part of SEN’s match-day team.

But with an increasing workload in his role as the AFL’s community umpiring development manager, the league has pulled rank, suggesting he needs to focus on his full-time job.

Sanderson and SEN had been careful not to place him in any awkward situations during broadcasts and he’d even sat out segments when umpiring was being discussed.

The AFL is still allowing field umpire “Razor” Ray Chamberlain to continue with his regular spot on Whateley.

Sanderson was Nathan Buckley’s right-hand man at Collingwood in recent years but was moved on when his good friend was sacked. The former Geelong defender coached Adelaide for three years from 2012-14.

He made his way to the AFL in February where he works under Rob Auld, the new executive general manager of game development.

Officiating at grassroots level has been a major issue for the league this year, with umpire numbers down by 6000.

Sanderson had replaced Craig Jennings as SEN’s strategist after Jennings found his way back into the AFL this year as an assistant coach with the GWS Giants.

NINE’S GUN RECRUIT TAKES TIME OFF

Channel 9’s bid to stir up the TV news breaking scene is on hold.

Channel 7’s dynamic duo of Tom Browne and Mitch Cleary have captured everyone’s attention, particularly on social media, as they race each other for exclusives.

In an attempt to break up the Seven stronghold, their opponents hired former Sydney Morning Herald sports journalist Sam Phillips.

The go-getter from the Harbour City was keen to have a crack at the AFL, but things haven’t worked out as planned.

Phillips understandably took a while to learn the TV caper, with some teething issues. A bout of sickness didn’t help his cause and it’s understood he’s currently taking some time away.

He had been brought in as a replacement for Corey Norris, who returned to Adelaide.

FOX FOOTY GOING INTO BEAST MODE?

Is Fox Footy set to resurrect an old concept show?

The Beauty and the Beast was thrown around a few years ago but never quite got off the ground.

We hear Fox Footy’s coverage of next week’s AFL Hall of Fame evening has potentially opened the door for a reunion of sorts.
