High-profile Magpie Jordan de Goey has been charged with indecent assault over an incident that occurred in 2015.
The Collingwood footballer, 24, was issued with the charge by Victoria Police on Saturday.
de Goey, who has played 93 games for the Magpies, made his debut in the year he was charged.
In a statement, Collingwood confirmed that one of their biggest stars is facing a serious criminal charge.
The Magpies said they became aware of the case in 2018 and referred the matter to Victoria Police and also to the AFL’s Integrity Unit. The club said de Goey was cooperative at the time with investigations.
Collingwood also said de Goey will remain training and playing while criminal proceedings against him continue.
In a statement, Victoria Police said de Goey and another 24-year-old were charged by detectives from the Sexual Crimes Squad with indecent assault and bailed to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
The offence is alleged to have occurred in Kew.
