Jess Hosking quits West Coast, set to take break from AFLW after off-field issue
Jess Hosking has walked away from football for personal reasons two weeks after it was revealed an off-field issue had put her place at West Coast in jeopardy.
West Coast AFLW player Jess Hosking has announced the “difficult decision” to step away from football this year due to personal reasons.
As revealed by this masthead earlier this month, the former Tiger and Blue had been working through the details of an off-field issue that jeopardised her position at the club.
The 29-year-old has been absent from the club since pre-season training returned after having an instant impact in her first season at the Eagles.
“I would like to thank the West Coast Eagles for providing me with the opportunity to continue my AFLW career last season,” Hosking said in a club statement.
“While this has been a difficult decision it is the right time for me to take a break from football for personal reasons.
“I wish Daisy and the girls the best of luck for the season ahead.”
West Coast acknowledged Hosking’s commitment to community work and promoting the club. The utility had one year left to run on her contract.
“The Club accepts Jess’ decision to take time away from the game,” Head of Women’s Football Michelle Cowan said.
“We acknowledge Jess’ significant contribution and wish her all the best with her future endeavours.”
