Geelong don’t have a concrete plan in place to ease Jack Steven back into full training, after he returned to the club on Monday morning.

The recruit arrived at GMHBA Stadium for the first time since he received a stab wound to the chest eight days ago.

He spent three days in hospital recovering from the injury after arriving in hospital on May 17. It is still unclear how he suffered the wound.

A relaxed-looking Steven, 30, walked laps of the oval while his Geelong teammates trained in groups of eight.

“It’s good to be back. I can’t wait to get back into it,” Steven said. “(I’m feeling) nice and healthy”.

The Cats will hold their first session of contact training on Tuesday with the majority of the playing group but it appears unlikely Steven will participate.

The former St Kilda star will have just over two weeks to prove his fitness and earn selection for Geelong’s Round 2 clash against Hawthorn on June 12.

While clubs such as Collingwood and Richmond returned to full contact sessions on Monday, Geelong chose to stick with the groups it trained in last week.

After Tuesday’s all-in session, the players will train again in their groups on Thursday before another full practice on Friday. Wednesday is scheduled to be a day off.

A police investigation into the stabbing is ongoing and Steven spoke to police about the incident on Friday.

Steven and his ex-partner have been interviewed, with the investigation expected to be finalised in coming days.

Detectives are still working to establish an exact timeline but believe he was somewhere in the Brighton area last Saturday night when he was stabbed.
