Connor Rozee and Jason Horne-Francis down for Port Adelaide after Eagles win

Port Adelaide is expecting to be without Jason Horne-Francis for the rest of 2025 after the star midfielder had surgery on his foot, but Connor Rozee could still play this week.

Port Adelaide expects to be without Jason Horne-Francis for the remainder of the season after having surgery for a broken foot.

But the Power is not yet ruling out captain Connor Rozee for Saturday’s clash with Hawthorn in Launceston because of a fractured hand.

Port football boss Chris Davies said while it was good news on Rozee, the club was not optimistic he would be available this week.

“He may well come down with us yet, but I think he’ll be a test late,” Davies said.

“I think it’ll be more about pain management for Connor.

“Jason had surgery last night and will be highly unlikely to return this year.”

The injuries to the star duo comes off the back of the Power losing forward Sam Powell-Pepper (knee), defender Esava Ratugolea (hamstring) and ruckman Dante Visentini (ankle) for the season the previous week.

Forwards Todd Marshall (achilles) and Tom Cochrane (foot) were ruled out for the remainder of the campaign earlier this year.

“We will look at the soft-tissue ones being ones we can manage a little more easily ... but I do think we’ve been a little bit unlucky,” Davies said.

“We do have to be mindful of the fact we’re getting a little bit thin with the number of players we can choose from.

“We do need to balance being as good as we possibly can right now with managing our players.”

Out-of-contract defender Ryan Burton is also unlikely to play again this season after he underwent a knee arthroscope.

Burton came from the field after experiencing soreness in his knee during a SANFL game at the end of last month.

The setbacks leave an almost bare cupboard for the Power as they approach their final six games under coach Ken Hinkley, including his farewell Showdown in round 20.

Sam Powell-Pepper (ACL), Todd Marshall (achilles), Esava Ratugolea (hamstring) and Dante Visentini (ankle) were among the six players who had already been ruled out for the season.

Aliir Aliir’s left knee was heavily strapped against West Coast and he came from the field for treatment during the first half, but the key defender was poised to travel to Tasmania to face the Hawks on Saturday.
