West Coast Eagles fans raise their fingers to support Harley Reid
West Coast fans have raised their middle fingers in support of Harley Reid after the teenager was fined for the same gesture by the AFL. Watch the video.
He’s been in the headlines all week but West Coast fans have shown their support for Harley Reid with a middle-finger salute during Sunday’s western derby.
The 19-year-old was fined $1000 by the AFL after flipping the bird twice at Brisbane fans during last week’s loss to the Lions. Reid was first given the chance to explain his actions before ultimately being sanctioned.
It prompted former Eagle and Backchat podcast contributor Hamish Brayshaw to start a movement, encouraging Eagles fans to raise the middle finger at the nine minute mark of the first quarter.
A cheer broke out at Optus Stadium when that moment arrived as many Eagles fans took the opportunity to show their unwavering support for the second-year midfielder.
The stands were full of supporters proudly waving the middle finger and plenty joined in from home as well, including media personality Daniel Gorringe.

It comes as Reid’s sponsor Puma announced this week they’d signed him for a further six years, the announcement featuring a cheeky nod to the gesture.
Declaring “We’ve got your back,” Puma posted a video to social media of a two hands counting to six with the right flipping the bird.
Puma also bought the back page of the Sunday Times last year ahead of Reid’s first game in response to the how often he’d featured on the back page of the local paper.
Reid had quiet first half, entering the main break with seven disposals, and two frees against after dominating his first derby last year.
