AFL Now: Latest team, injury and tribunal news ahead of round 8
The Bulldogs are set to play in front of their smallest crowd in over 30 years, with construction at Mars Stadium in Ballarat set to lock out over 5,000 footy fans.
Construction works at Mars Stadium mean the Western Bulldogs are staring down the barrel of their smallest normal-season crowd since 1992.
Only in the Covid-affected season of 2020 did the Bulldogs have a crowd lower than what they will host on Saturday in Ballarat with a redevelopment of the ground meaning capacity has been restricted to around 5000 for the Dogs’ home games at the ground this season and in 2026.

“The Western Stand (including its 5,042 seats) will remain in place and accessible throughout the build,” the club said in a statement.
“However, during this time the overall stadium capacity will be reduced by approximately 50 per cent and standing room will not be available.”
Saturday’s clash at the ground is sold out.
Previously the ground could accommodate 11,000 people.
General admission members have been given the option of upgrading to a reserved seat membership or redeeming a game at Marvel Stadium in exchange for the game.
“These upgrades will add 5,000 new permanent seats, increasing the stadium’s seated capacity to 10,000 ... and improved acccessibility which will all contribute to an improved match day experience.
“We appreciate everyone’s flexibility and understanding as we navigate this period.”
