AFL: AFL goes local with Grand Final entertainment
DMA’S and Cup Sport are among the local acts to perform in the first ever night Grand Final played outside of Victoria.
The AFL has gone local for this year’s Grand Final entertainment booking rising rock band DMA’S, pop powerhouse Cub Sport and Wolfmother lead singer Andrew Stockdale to play at the first ever night decider.
In the first ever night Grand Final played outside of Victoria, the Australian bands will perform at the Gabba on October 24 in front of what is expected to be the most watched game in football history and a reduced capacity crowd of around 30,000.
Brisbane’s own Sheppard will also perform, as will Electric Fields featuring Thelma Plum and Busby Marou, in what is an all Australian line-up. The Queensland Symphony Orchestra is also set to deliver a key performance on the biggest stage.
All the acts will be split across pre-game and halftime slots with Sheppard, whose hit song Geronimo was released in 2014, to lead the halftime entertainment.

The AFL has continued to evolve in it’s musical choices, after The Killers were a standout at the 2017 Grand Final won by Richmond.
“On the back of an All-Australian line-up at last year’s Grand Final we know there is incredible support to bring together local talent again this year,” said Kylie Rogers, the AFL‘s general manager of commercial.
“We have some of the best of Australia’s musical talent performing, with a unique sound and collection of voices –from the Torres Strait down to the south-coast – we’re proud to be delivering another All-Australian billing for the 2020 Toyota AFL Grand Final.”
Last year the AFL chose Tones and I and Dean Lewis support Paul Kelly.
The League has also booked Mike Brady to sing Up There Cazaly from the MCG with the performance to be beamed into the Gabba during the night.
