Super Saturday never fails to deliver, and upset wins were the theme of the day.

GWS and Port Adelaide secured must-needed victories to keep their seasons alive, while North Melbourne has left the bottom of the ladder.

A popular trade-in roze to the top with the performance of the day, while Toby Nankervis pressed his case as a top SuperCoach ruck selection.

Relive updates and SuperCoach analysis below.

THE TAKEAWAYS

ROZEE DAY OUT

Port Adelaide skipper Connor Rozee had a day to remember against the Bulldogs in the Power’s 48 point victory at Adelaide Oval. Rozee finished with a season high 168 points thanks to 36 disposals, eight tackles, seven clearances, five marks and kicked 1.2. Rozee has been building over the last couple of weeks since his return from ankle and hamstring problems, helping Port Adelaide claim back to back wins for the first time since they defeated Geelong at GMHBA stadium and then the come from behind win over the Hawks at home. Expect a few coaches to pick him up for their next clash against the Suns next week.

SDK AS GOOD AS TDK

Sam De Koning got a touch up against his brother in round 15 but since then SDK has lifted to show his older brother that there is a battle for the best DK in the AFL. He notched up 135 points in round 15 against his brother but after a quieter week last week, he bounced back in the round 17 win over the Hawks with 125 points which included two goals, 20 disposals, 15 hit outs, six tackles, four marks and four clearances to help the Cats win by 51 points. A big week for him next week as he looks to become the Cats number one ruckman when they take on Collingwood at the MCG.

FREO SHARING THE LOAD

Since JL’s comments about stat padding, the Dockers have responded with a team-first approach. Great for the purple army, terrible for SuperCoaches, with Serong and Ryan’s scores suffering as a byproduct. The former boasted scores of 170, 141 and 125 to start the season, making him a SuperCoach must-have, but his five-round average now sits at 99. Ryan has recorded two sub-100 scores in the past month - and only one more for the year. It’s a tough pill to swallow as coaches run out of trades heading into the back end of the SuperCoach year, but don’t expect much to change as the Dockers continue to share the load in their push for a top two spot.

- Chloe Williams

The GWS Giants were in need of four points, and they rose to the challenge against the Blues.

Despite Patrick Cripps (144) and Tom De Koning’s (128) monster efforts, Toby Greene and Jesse Hogan led an inspired comeback which saw them claim a 12-point victory.

Across the night, Walsh (69) and Serong (84) were well held, while Jackson (121) flourished with a half in the ruck.

Richmond fought hard, but Fremantle claimed the win to climb within two points of second place.

Earlier, Geelong proved too strong for a plucky Hawks outfit this afternoon, while the latter have been left with further injury woes.

Hawthorn spearhead Mitch Lewis’ comeback game has ended in disaster, after the full-forward copped a heavy knock to the back of the head and landed awkwardly on his left knee.

Port Adelaide recaptured it’s form against the Bulldogs, taking away a 48-point victory, while North Melbourne stunned the Suns who continue their dismal away record.

Popular SuperCoach pick Harry Sheezel and the returning Colby McKercher were instrumental with 141 and 134 points respectively.

FT SuperCoach Analysis:

Briggs was Giant for GWS with 148 points and 40 hit outs, while Hogan (143) kicked five goals and willed his time into an incredible comeback.

Cripps (144) top scored for the Blues as his red-hot form continues, but his counterpart in Walsh was well held by Bedford, scoring only 69.

De Koning’s 128 was impressive, but not as great as Nankervis’ 160. His five-round average of 128 is the highest of all rucks, with Gawn and Grundy to play tomorrow.

Young (126) kicked two goals to accompany 24 disposals for the Dockers, while Ryan (99) and Serong (84) were disappointing for SuperCoaches.

Blight (87) and Fonti (61) proved to be great rookie selections, with Jones (88) also impressive on return.

10.45PM: DEAL SEALED

The win is sealed for the Dockers with two minutes remaining, but it is also a victory for Jackson owners.

Darcy’s concussion will see him miss next week too, so it buys owners one more possible ton before they have to move him on.

Blight (83) is also a win for SuperCoaches looking for a downgrade option.

More wins include:

10.31PM: SERONG FIRES

Maybe he too will prove me wrong ...

Serong scores a major as both he and Ryan find their way into the 70’s.

With ten minutes to play, will these SuperCoach favourites find an extra thirty points each?

3QT SuperCoach Analysis in the West:

Serong (64) is on track to record his third sub-100 score in the past month, while Jackson (93) is on track to make me eat my words in regard him being on the SuperCoach chopping block - although a concussion to Sean Darcy saw him resume the ruck role.

Nankervis has been huge for the visitors, while Bolton has four goals.

10.18PM: STRONGER THAN THE REST

Honestly, I’m pretty happy to hear the big, big sound.

Carlton’s spirited comeback was not enough to make up for their lack of scoring power in the middle two terms.

Despite De Koning’s score of 129, Kieren Briggs (146) was influential with 40 hit outs to 20.

The Giants’ season remains alive.

As they say, they’ll fight until the end.

What a turnaround. The tsunami is back.

10.12PM: FREO MAKE THEIR CHARGE

They lead by 46 points, and Young has broken the ton.

I will get to their 3QT analysis soon, but for now, I’m sweating over the GWS v Carlton game ...

Consecutive goals to Kennedy and Acres sees the Blues within two kicks with three minutes to play.

10.04PM: THE STREAK STAYS ALIVE

A soccer-style goal to Curnow sees his consecutive goal streak live on.

Minutes prior, a goal to Ward saw any danger coming the GIANTS way put to bed, as Hogan selfishly gave off the kick which could have handed him his sixth goal.

Hogan (139) and Cripps (130) lead all-comers from a SuperCoach perspective.

Interestingly, mcKay sits on 75 despite kicking five goals himself.

9.59PM: PRESSURE LIFTED IN WA

Richmond’s pressure is above the season average at a rating of 206, but Fremantle have gone one better at 225.

Young (92) and Jackson (90) are the standout SuperCoach performers for the home side.

3QT SuperCoach Analysis:

Sam Walsh (50) has fallen victim to the Bedford tag, but he is now chasing Cripps, who sits on 104.

Green (78) has lifted, while Jones (72) had an impressive quarter, while the orange tsunami has infiltrated the top ten scorers.

Whitfield (84) has been solid with 24 disposals.

9.46PM: RICHMOND FIGHT BACK

It’s a three goal game in the West five minutes into the third quarter after two goals to Shai Bolton, who now has four.

Blight (61) continues to impose himself in the contest, but the rain is keeping it a low scoring contest.

9.37PM: IS THEIR STILL HOPE?

McKay was the recipient of a 50m penalty which could keep the Blues in the contest.

Despite a four goal haul, he sits on only 50 points.

Whatever hope there was has faded after a late free kick to Hogan sees him record his fifth major.

9.31PM: GWS EXTEND LEAD

They’re now +73 in possesion and +13 in inside 50s as they extend their lead to 36 points.

Isaac Cumming has been immense on return, with two goals and fifteen disposals.

The Blues have laid only three tackles inside fifty and it has been 46 minutes since their last score.

HT SuperCoach Analysis in the West:

Richmond rookie Jacob Blight has 57 points and is only $102.4K.

He’s on the bubble this week.

Treacy’s equal career-high four goals sees him leading for the Dockers, alongside Young who is also playing forward.

Jackson (50) has lifted, while Taranto (60) could be a nice POD heading into the end of the year.

9.20PM: GAME OVER?

It’s a big call, yes. But GWS now leas by five goals, and 13 Carlton players are yet to touch the footy this quarter.

The GIANTS are leading the clearance count 7-1 this term, and Tom Green has 55 points.

9.18PM: JACKSON RECOVERS

He must have seen that I said he was on the chopping block .. he has lifted to 51 points.

9.10PM: FIRST LEAD CHANGE

Carlton have led at every minute so far, but after almost two minutes of play in the third term, it’s Hogan who has lifted his side to the lead.

They continue to lead out of the middle.

Add to that a goal to Harvey Thomas, which has flipped their two point deficit to a ten point lead in a matter of minutes.

HT SuperCoach Analysis:

An inspired quarter by the Giants has seen Coniglio rise to 54 points, but Green remains behind the ledger on 26.

Rookies Joe Fonti and Darcy Jones have scored 32 and 26 points respectively, seeing them matching the efforts of the midfield bull.

De Koning is leading the way on 83 despite leaving the field for treatment on his ankle, while two goals to Cripps sees him at second.

Curnow (5) has had little to no impact on the contest with only the two disposals. He’s owned by 38.1% of the top 1% of coaches.

8.44PM: GIANTS COME CLOSE

The margin is now only two points after GWS faced a 39-point deficit early.

Goals to Hogan (2) and Bedford came off the back of their inside 50 pressure, now winning the metric 29-24 and recording 11-2 tackles inside 50 this quarter.

In the first quarter, they were -20 for possesions - they now lead the metric +50.

QT SuperCoach Analysis in the West:

Serong (15) and Ryan (24) have started slow, while Hayden Young (34) has been solid.

Nankervis sits on 37 points after scoring the opening goal, while Treacy’s three-goal effort sees him lead the way on 56.

Luke Jackson (13) could be on the chopping block this week for SuperCoaches if he puts up yet another sub-par score.

8.31PM: STARS LIMITED

The contest remains close in WA, but SuperCoach stars Luke Ryan and Caleb Serong remain on only 7 and 9 points respectively.

Josh Treacy sits on 31 points, beating only Jordan Clark (23) for Fremantle.

Treacy has just slotted one more, so his score should rise soon.

8.30PM: CRIPPS BURSTS AWAY

The first time, he scores. The second time, he’s apart of a chain that allows Fantasia to score.

So far, he has 70 points to his name.

But, he just gave away a free.

-4 points, skipper.

The Blues’ reply is a controversial one, as a Hogan non-mark saw them propel to the other end.

After 15 minutes, Weitering remains on the bench with Owies yet to be activated.

8.21PM: GIANTS MOUNT COMEBACK

Quick goals to Greene, Coniglio and now Ward have reduced the margin to only fifteen points.

GWS’ pressure has been immense early.

Weitering has left the field once again with a thigh issue, while McGovern has been treated for a hip complaint.

Riccardi has maximised on the Blues’ weakened defence, finding space to record their fifth consecutive goal.

8.15PM: SUBS NAMED IN THE WEST

Around the grounds, Sam Banks (Richmond) and Michael Walters (Fremantle) have started as the substitutes.

In-form SuperCoach ruck Toby Nankervis has kicked the first goal of the night.

QT SuperCoach Analysis:

Rookie Joe Fonti has already recorded 20 points for the GIANTS, while Tom Green has only 16.

Charlie Curnow, a popular pick at F6, sits on an even more dismal five - but his counterpart McKay has 35.

De Koning continues his elite SuperCoach form, leading all comers on 48, With Williams (46) and Cripps (43) not far behind.

Jacob Weitering has heavy strapping on a corked right thigh.

8.07PM: JONES HITS BACK

$182k rookie Darcy Jones remains in 8% of teams, and a late goal is just what they wanted to see after holding him through injury.

Despite the inside 50s sitting at only 17-13 the Blues’ way, they have capitalised on their opportunities, recoring twelve scoring shots to four.

8.03PM: STRIKE WHILE THE IRON’S HOT

Patrick Cripps’ form has been well noted during the week, but a free kick for leading to a goal, with an inside 50 moments later will have SuperCoach owners happy indeed.

The skipper recorded 142 points the last time these two sides met.

7.45PM: HARRY UP

McKay has split the first quarter apart with three goals, skyrocketing to 35 SuperCoach points.

The Blues are leading the clearances 9-3, and it feels like the game will once again come down to who can win it in the middle and maximise their inside 50 efforts.

Ten minutes later, Zac Williams has kicked back to back goals against his former side, continuing his hot streak as a forward.

He is set to gain DPP status when lockout lifts.

7.43PM: CAPTAIN LIFTS

Just as Carlton looked to let loose, Toby Greene launched a rocket to keep the orange tsunami flowing.

7.38PM: DE KONING DOWN

Tom De Koning, who has a three round average of 154, has gone to the bench with an ankle issue.

He is now back on the field.

7.35PM: MCKAY STRIKES FIRST

Harry McKay has recorded the first goal of the game from long range.

It came off the back of a defensive effort from Alex Cincotta, who is tagging Stephen Coniglio. He is now owned by only 746 of coaches.

7:30PM: SUBSTITUTES LOCKED

Matthew Owies (Carlton) and James Peatling (GWS) will be tonights subs, while Joe Fonti will debut for the latter side.

7:17PM FULL TIME SCORES

Mitch Duncan leads the night as the Cats manhandled the Hawks to claim a 51 point victory at GMHBA Stadium.

Duncan finished with 128 points, three ahead of De Koning and Mannagh wrapped up the top three with 118 points.

7:04PM: CAMERON PASSES 100

Jeremy Cameron’s fourth goal to go with 18 possesions and eight marks takes him passed the 100 points as the Cats kick out to a 45 point lead late in the fourth.

Cameron is the fifth Cat and eight player tonight to notch up triple digits with Duncan (126), De Koning (120), Stewart (114), Meek (113), Mannagh (108), Worpel (104) and Day (102) sitting above him.

6:50PM: LEWIS’ SERIOUS CONCERN

Hawthorn’s Mitch Lewis has been involved in a serious head knock with Geelong’s Jake Kologjashnij, resulting in blood gushing out the back of his head.

Playing his first game since round 3, Lewis copped an errant elbow in the head from Geelong’s Jake Kolodjashnij when floating back with the flight in the final quarter.

Lewis was left prone on the ground for multiple minutes while the Cats swept the ball into attack and kicked a simple goal.

Lewis also had his leg caught under him in the fall and landed awkwardly on his knee.

The left knee was heavily strapped and he appeared to struggle to put weight on it before walking from the field without any limp, while holding a towel up to the back of his head.

He missed the start of the 2023 season due to a knee injury and had not played since his side last met Geelong, on Easter Monday, due to a persistent knee injury.

Lewis showed some good signs in his return match, kicking two goals as his Hawks were comfortably outshone by the Cats.

Goalkicking legend Jason Dunstall said Lewis “went down heavily didn’t he … it was a very fair contest.”

Geelong have made their sub with Ollie Henry coming on for skipper Patrick Dangerfield (tactical).

6:41PM: THREE QUARTER TIME SUPERCOACH LEADERS

It was a goal fest with seven goals in 15 minutes in the third quarter as the Cats hold a 42 point lead at the final break.

Mitch Duncan sits a top the leaderboard with 107 points, while De Koning (97) and Meek (95) look to crack the 100 early in the final quarter.

6:15PM: HAWKS ACTIVATE SUB

Hawthorn have activated their sub, swapping forward Jack Gunston out of the game for Harry Morrison.

It comes just minutes after the Hawks responded to Cameron’s opening goal of the third quarter as they trail by 36 points.

6:11PM: CAMERON OPENS THE THIRD

After two behinds and an out of bounds on the full, Jeremy Cameron has kicked the opening goal of the third quarter and his second of the game.

5:45PM: HALF TIME SUPERCOACH LEADERS

5:00PM: ROHAN DOUBLE IN 200

Gary Rohan and the Cats have had a dream start to the forwards 200th game as he has kicked the back-to-back goals to give Geelong a 28 point lead with four minutes to go in the opening quarter.

The two goals takes him to second on the SuperCoach leaderboard, just two points behind Ollie Dempsey on 38 with Hawks’ D’Ambrosio sitting on 35 points.

4:48PM: CATS KICK THE FIRST

After five attempts, for five behinds, the Cats kicked the opening goal on their sixth attempt as the Geelong claim an early 10 point lead.

Oliver Dempsey sits on top for SuperCoach leaders with 39 points from eight disposals and a clearance.

4:35PM: FINAL SCORES KANGAROOS V SUNS

There has been a late change by the Cats in their clash with the Hawks down at GMHBA stadium with Mitch Knevitt replaced by Jhye Clark.

4:17PM: FULL TIME SUPERCOACH LEADERS

Port Adelaide had control right from the first bounce and it was thanks to their midfield bulls in Rozee (168), Butters (159) and Wines (115) as they ran out winners by 48 points.

But the Dogs had plenty of fight from English (139), Treloar (129) and Liberatore (110) finishing as the top three from both sides.

Dogs skipper Bontempelli still picked up 106 points despite having a tough first half.
