AFL 2023: GWS Giants confident Kieren Briggs will be fit for preliminary final
The Giants were running hot with an almost injury-free list – until Kieren Briggs grabbed his shoulder. Get the latest on the big man and GWS selection.
The Giants are set to go in unchanged for their preliminary final against Collingwood on Friday night.
There were major concerns surrounding Kieren Briggs after the in-form ruckman came from the field in the third quarter against Port Adelaide.
He required assessment after landing heavily on his shoulder, but returned to the match in the last term and played out the game.
Briggs trained separately to the main group for their gentle session at Bronte Beach on Monday, instead focusing on his recovery with massages and work from the physios.
Shoulder issues have been a constant throughout Briggs’ career, and the Giants are confident the 23-year-old will take his place at the MCG.

Callan Ward was industrious as usual against Port Adelaide and also pulled up slightly sore. But teammate Stephen Coniglio is confident his fellow inaugural Giant will be right to take on the Pies.
“Yeah he’s going good, everyone’s pulled up well,” Coniglio said.
“He was always older, but he wasn’t that old. Now he feels a little bit older.
“It’s the tipping point of the season, but everyone is feeling cherry ripe and ready for the weekend.”
