The best U16 rugby talent will hit the pitch this weekend vying for spots in numerous squads - including one of the most successful juniors sides in NSW.

More than 150 young guns will play a series of game at St Gregs College, Campbelltown, on Saturday and Sunday in front of thee games junior rep and academy selectors.

The trials will double as a selection for Sydney and Country teams to play in the annual battle at Newcastle in July.

They will also be used by NSW Waratahs selectors in their process to determine the makeup of the squad to be geared at defending the 2025 Super Rugby U16s title.

Since the competition was ignited after Covid, the NSW Waratahs U16s have never been beaten and coaches are keen to continue this impressive winning run.

Some players from last year’s winning squad are eligible to play again but the Waratahs are looking for new talent to fill the gap left by aged-out players in their U16 Academy side.

“We are basically out to pick our under 16 squad,’’ said Waratahs head of pathways Matt Evrard. “We have another invitational event at Easts that will be out final one but this is important.’
