Imagining Ralph Lauren’s world conjures images of effortless elegance, Hollywood glamour and equestrian style. For Ralph Lauren, fashion may be about many things, but longevity is one common thread that has linked those iconic designs for more than five decades.
“I aspire to create a sense of timelessness, a kind of foreverness, a style that is enduring,” Ralph Lauren once famously noted, which is true of both fashion and interior design.
This month, a new emblematic store at Chadstone will bring us closer to the designer’s world in Australia than ever before.
Ralph Lauren’s collections have been adored by everyone from First Ladies to the fashion-forward since the brand was established in 1967, with designs that have travelled the length of red carpets and traversed polo fields around the world time and again. And they’ve made fashion history along the way, from the birth of the polo shirt in 1972 to equestrian-inspired blazers to name but a few iconic designs.
There was Gwyneth Paltrow’s unforgettable pale-pink taffeta gown that she wore in 1999, when she won her Academy Award as best actress for Shakespeare in Love. And who could forget Hillary Clinton’s purple-lapel blazer, which she wore during her concession speech at the conclusion of her 2016 presidential campaign. The list goes on.
But Ralph Lauren’s role as a style-maker has been more prolific still. The styles worn outside of the gaze of the paparazzi are just as notable – his collections have quietly elevated the everyday style of women, men and the interiors of their homes for decades.
With tumbled-limestone features and stained wood floors, the first “World of Ralph Lauren” emblematic store at Chadstone will debut a range of new collections in Australia, each a symphony of classic silhouettes that hark back to the brand’s Americana style and heritage. For discerning decorators when it comes to interior design, Ralph Lauren Home will also be featured at the store.
On the fashion front, this season Ralph Lauren has set out to create a ready-to-wear line for women as we move toward a “post” pandemic era. But just how should we dress as we continue to navigate life and style after lockdown?
The future of fashion according to Ralph Lauren should be very bright indeed, if the 2022 Pre-Spring Collection is anything to go by, which champions solid, bold colours and paisley prints.
Meanwhile, as the wintry weather sets in, Polo Ralph Lauren has drawn inspiration from the glamorous Italian Dolomites. The Fall range, in crystalline shades of white and blue, features intarsia knits balanced with a modern sensibility and a simple palette, creating a luxurious winter wardrobe inspired by a holiday in the Alps.
Remaining true to Ralph Lauren’s equestrian roots, The Welington Accessory Collection masterfully pairs exquisite, classic detailing with a modern aesthetic.
Referencing traditional saddlery, the collection is comprised of handbags, shoes, belts, and jewellery that boast equestrian-inspired hardware, showcasing one of Ralph Lauren’s most recognisable motifs: the sleek silhouette of a stirrup.
The Welington Shoulder Bag sits elegantly under the arm with a short leather strap, displaying the stirrup motif on the front strap and comes in suede, python, snakeskin, and shearling.
The iconic Ralph Lauren riding boot is reimagined with the stirrup buckle on the outer ankle and is introduced in a block heel style.
At the new flagship, technology will also be used to bring the world of Ralph Lauren to life virtually, with digital touchpoints that allow customisation options for select pieces, as well as tell the story of this enduring brand.
“What I do is about living the best life you can and enjoying the fullness of the life around you. From what you wear to the way you live to the way you love,” Lauren once said. As we begin to dress for the cooler months ahead, there’s sure to be a place for Ralph Lauren in our hearts and homes for many years to come.
