As the first Positive Education and Visible Wellbeing School in NSW, Ravenswood understands that wellbeing and academic success are inextricably linked.
Since the arrival of Principal Anne Johnstone in 2016, Ravenswood has received a series of accolades for its transformative work in wellbeing and innovation, including an Australian Education Excellence Award for Best Student Wellbeing Program in 2021, 2022 and 2024, and five Educator 5-Star Innovative Schools Awards in six years (2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023).
From effective study habits to high-quality connections, students are equipped with a wellbeing “tool kit” of evidence-based strategies that benefit them during school and long after graduation.
One IB student in the Class of 2023 attained a perfect IB score of 45 and the highest possible ATAR of 99.95, placing her in the top 1 per cent of IB students in the world. Twelve HSC and IB students achieved ATARs above 99 and 11 students were recognised on the HSC All-round Achievers list – a remarkable result for a proudly non-selective school.
Overall, 30 per cent of the Class of 2023 achieved an ATAR above 95 and the median ATAR was 90.40.

Mrs Johnstone is internationally recognised for her pioneering work in the field of Positive Education and youth wellbeing. She is the Global Chair of the International Positive Education Network (IPEN) and holds a master’s degree in Positive Education from the University of Pennsylvania. She is also the 2022 recipient of the Phyllis Evans Medal from the Teachers’ Guild of NSW, a prize that acknowledges a “distinguished educator of great standing” and has received an Australian Education Excellence Award for School Principal of the Year (non-government) twice, in 2024 and 2022.
As the only school on Sydney’s Upper North Shore to offer students a choice between the HSC and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, Ravenswood has embraced a strong tradition of educational excellence since 1901 – developing young women of purpose who are empowered and inspired by the highest quality of teaching and learning experiences.

Ravenswood is proudly a non-selective school. The recognition of the uniqueness of each student as a learner underpins our Learning Framework from prep to year 12. Ravenswood is the only school on Sydney’s Upper North Shore to offer students a choice between the HSC and the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Ravenswood Prep offers an innovative curriculum combining the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IBPYP), Reggio Emilia and Ravenswood’s Positive Education approach. Throughout the junior school, the IBPYP provides a rigorous framework that values inquiry, collaboration and student agency.
