Wayne's promise! Cheaper mortgages and a bargain on the Girl Gourmet Cupcake Maker

Treasurer Wayne Swan yesterday:

IN a market economy business and, of course, Australian households need to be able to get a fair go in the banking system. And it's also very important that consumers are fully informed about the wide range of competitive deals that are on offer. That is, it's important that they know where to look.

The Member for Lilley Wayne Swan, in a press release on December 6:

WITH Christmas just around the corner, Wayne Swan's recent Toywatch survey has found that significant savings can still be made on popular toys. During the second Toywatch survey of the year the Lilley Toywatch team discovered average savings of 27 per cent across their sample of stocking fillers and gifts.

Member for Lilley Wayne Swan in a press release September 28, 2009:

LOCAL families can make significant savings on their Christmas gifts by shopping early and shopping around, Wayne Swan MP has revealed today. These findings are a part of Mr Swan's 2009 Toywatch survey which aims to find price variations between popular kids' toys. "The Girl Gourmet Cupcake Maker came in at one store at $99 and $50 at another, while a price difference of over 50 per cent was recorded for Tamagotchis."

The Member for Lilley Wayne Swan, in a press release dated February 5:

THE latest Lilley Pricewatch survey has indicated that online shopping is more expensive than buying your groceries in-store.

And on the ABC's Insiders August 17, 2008:

BARRIE Cassidy: Now, it looks as if FuelWatch is in trouble in the Senate. Will you be glad to see the back of it if it is voted down?

Swan: Barrie, I hope FuelWatch proceeds. I know some people turn their nose down a bit at the prospect that people could save $10 on a tank of petrol, but we don't. The Liberal Party appear to be siding with Big Oil who don't want consumers to know where they can get the cheapest petrol at any price cycle. It's an important measure because it can help people save a small amount of money, admittedly, from time to time. But that's important to a lot of people who are under financial pressure.

Cassidy:A small amount of money for them, but it's costing the government quite a lot of money.

Wayne Swan speech June 28, 2008:

I WAS looking at the Liberal front bench and contemplating the leadership choice they're going to have to make one day soon. I thought perhaps they could recycle some of my shopping advice. So here are my tips for them: "shop around"; "compare what's on offer"; "check the weight"; and "go and ask the store manager for something that's not on the shelf"! Friends, the Liberal leadership shelf is completely bare.

Naomi Wolf in The Huffington Post last Tuesday:

DEAR Interpol, As a longtime feminist activist, I have been overjoyed to discover your new commitment to engaging in global manhunts to arrest and prosecute men who behave like narcissistic jerks to women they are dating. Of course, as a feminist, I am also pleased that the alleged victims are using feminist-inspired rhetoric and law to assuage what appears to be personal injured feelings. That's what our brave suffragette foremothers intended!

Mary Elizabeth Williams on Salon.com on Saturday:

EVER since publishing The Beauty Myth nearly 20 years ago, Naomi Wolf has built a reputation as a challenging, tough and thought-provoking feminist writer. Now, she's also bananas. A woman who knows all too well the bitter mudslinging one can endure for accusing a man of sexual misconduct (as Wolf herself did) might want to give another woman the benefit of the damn doubt. She might want to consider -- just consider -- that while Interpol's response to Julian Assange may have been politically motivated, the accusers' might not have been.
