Turnbull discovers how to support Liberal candidates
Malcolm Turnbull “campaigns” for Dave Sharma, seven weeks after the Wentworth by-election, The Australian, December 6 last year:
Great to be with @DaveSharma & the amazing @MrsDzTB at the Wentworth Christmas party — good luck next year Dave!
Scott Morrison reveals Turnbull knocked back approaches from Sharma seeking his support, The Australian, October 21 last year:
Mr Morrison confirmed he had also made a personal request to Mr Turnbull for a letter to voters asking them to support the Liberal candidate.
Turnbull is asked about his non-support on Q&A, November 8 last year:
My judgment was that, given the circumstances, were I to be campaigning in or be particularly visible in any way in the by-election, it would be unhelpful to David Sharma’s prospects.
Turnbull writes a letter to constituents of the NSW state seat of Coogee, March 15:
(You have) a choice between a proven, genuine community advocate who has a track record of putting our community first and delivering for the eastern suburbs or an unknown Labor or Greens candidate who simply can’t deliver. Your local state MP for Coogee, Bruce Notley-Smith, is one of the most outstanding community advocates I have ever known.
In the midst of a knife-crime epidemic in Britain, police have other priorities. Tom Rogan, Washington Examiner website, Wednesday:
Enter Caroline Farrow, a journalist who now faces the police in a taped interview under caution because of tweets posted in October. Farrow is alleged to have “misgendered” another woman’s child. Farrow apparently regards the daughter, who was born as a male, as still being a male, and referred to that individual as “he” on Twitter. This led to a criminal complaint which Surrey police are now investigating.
Common sense prevails. London’s Evening Standard yesterday:
Surrey police were working to decide whether Caroline Farrow had committed a criminal offence after a charity boss accused her of misgendering her daughter. But on Thursday the force said the original allegation had been withdrawn and no further action would be taken.
But common sense goes missing in Cambridge. Toby Young, The Spectator, yesterday:
Please, God, let Jordan Peterson sue the University of Cambridge for having invited him to take up a visiting fellowship, only to rescind the invitation after a bunch of snowflake undergraduates said they would scweam and scweam until they made themselves sick. OK, they didn’t actually say that, but they might as well have done, the pathetic, passive-aggressive cry-bullies. In a report in Varsity, the Cambridge student newspaper, which is so craven in its forelock-tugging obeisance to the protesting students it makes Pravda look like the work of John Milton, we learn that Peterson isn’t welcome at Cambridge because it’s — wait for it — an “inclusive environment”.
The Broncos NRL cheer squad rebrands in a bid to “desexualise” performers, ABC radio, yesterday:
Cheerleaders no longer, from tonight the young women spurring on the Brisbane Broncos shall be known as dancers … albeit still with the pompoms. Broncos dance squad coach Jools Purchase (said) … the dancers were moving “from a cheerleading look to an athletic look”.
Following the trolling of AFLW star Tayla Harris this week, Ben Fordham reveals comments about Richmond forward Dusty Martin, The Today Show, yesterday:
These are comments that are left under a photo (of Martin) by women … “I just want him to be dad to my kids”, “This is hot”, “Marry me”, “I can almost see up his shorts”.
