If only the walls closing in on Trump bordered Mexico
Erik Wemple, The Washington Post, January 21:
If Trump’s “walls are closing in”, they’re moving very slowly. On Friday night, Fox News’s Ed Henry, guest-hosting the 7pm show … riffed on the previous week’s kerfuffle … (saying:) “It was just one week ago … that The New York Times had the previous blockbuster that was going to blow the president out of the water … and some of the same people said, ‘Oh my gosh: It’s all over. The walls are closing in.’ Where are we one week later?” Well, those darn walls won’t stay put. They continue closing in.
Frida Ghitis, CNN, December 20 last year:
The walls are closing in on Trump … It’s hardly surprising that the walls are closing in around the President. What is mind-boggling is just how many walls are coming in at him from every imaginable angle … And those were just some of the walls threatening to suffocate the presidency … Among the walls casting a darkening shadow on him is the emoluments lawsuit.
NBC News, December 14 last year:
Bob Woodward: Clearly, the investigative walls are closing in on Trump.
CNN, December 13 last year:
Rep Denny Heck said Wednesday that recent indictments … show “the walls are closing in and this is the beginning of the end for the Trump administration”.
Editorial in Canada’s The Globe and Mail, December 11 last year:
Mr Trump unconvincingly tweeted last week that the case against Mr Cohen “Totally clears the President”. This week, he has been … repeating his tired “NO COLLUSION” and “WITCH HUNT” claims. The spectacle is like watching a bellowing man trapped in a room with the walls closing in.
CNN, December 11 last year:
Anderson Cooper, host: It’s been a wild day at the White House … So (former Obama adviser) David Axelrod, this is a harbinger … of what the next two years is going to be like for … (Trump)?
Axelrod: Yes … those walls are closing in on him and the more he feels trapped, the more … (he’ll) lash out.
CNN, December 11 last year:
Wolf Blitzer: Happening now, breaking news … What do you think, Laura (Coates, CNN legal analyst)?
Coates: … every time the President … seems to be under attack by the walls closing in … he goes to his security blanket … immigration.
Edward Luce, Financial Times, December 8 last year:
The walls are closing in on “individual #1”. Donald Trump is battening down the hatches …
CNN, December 7 last year:
Host Don Lemon: Maybe it’s the cover-up and the crime all at the same time. At the end of a week of bad news and worse news for this president, the walls are really closing in …
CNN, April 28, 2017:
Brooke Baldwin: Breaking news here on CNN … Julie Hirschfeld Davis … reporter for The New York Times.
Davis: When you heard Trump talk about being president before he took office, it was a very sort of … macho … Now we hear him talking about being in a cocoon. It’s almost like he feels like the walls are closing in on him …
Wemple, The Washington Post, January 21:
(If) April 28, 2017 … (was when) … the walls (of the Oval Office) started closing in on Trump … (and devoured him) in a heap of plaster, (moulding) and high-end wallpaper by Tuesday … they have traveled an average of about .33 of an inch per day …
