Lyle Shelton opens an old wound in the culture wars. The new Australian Conservatives member on Sky News, Monday night:

Over time, I would suspect we would be wanting to see marriage restored.

As Diana Ross and the Supremes once said, Lyle ... February 8, 1965:

Stop! In the name of love / before you break my heart.

We had a decade of this rubbish. You lost. Get over it. Cheers. The Australian’s report on the gay marriage vote, November 16 last year:

The Yes case secured a clear majority in all states and in 133 of the nation’s 150 federal electorates, as regional and urban Australians delivered their verdicts in favour of change.

Talking of culture wars, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews in state parliament, yesterday:

There is no need to change Anzac Day, that is the view of the government.

Why was changing Anzac Day in a survey sent out by Andrews’s department then? The Social Value of War Commemorative Events report, August 4 last year:

The Frontier Conflicts — the period between 1790 and 1930 where Aboriginal Australians defended their lands, kinships and customs — should be reflected in the Anzac Day ceremony ... are you able to let us know if you agree or disagree?

And why did Andrews’s Veterans Affairs Minister say he’d be up for any change if the RSL backed it? John Eren speaks to reporters, Sunday:

It would be only then, with a consultation on enhancing the commemorations and service that we provide (that we’d change Anzac Day).

We don’t need Victoria to politicise Anzac Day the way they have with Australia Day. Herald Sun, February 1:

The City of Yarra has banned its 1000 employees, including childcare workers, librarians, and gardeners, from even uttering the words “Australia Day”.

It’s time we knew much more about this little black armband exercise. Former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett on Twitter, Monday:

They released a potential policy change, now release the survey ... size and cost.

And that veteran culture warrior, Donald Trump, isn’t concerned about the stockmarket tumbling. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, yesterday:

The President’s focus is on our long-term economic fundamentals, which remain exceptionally strong.

He’s never cared for the Dow as an economic indicator. Trump on Twitter, December 18 last year:

70 Record Closes for the Dow so far this year! We have NEVER had 70 Dow Records in a one year period. Wow!

He certainly doesn’t see it as a measure of his own success. Twitter, November 30 last year:

The Dow just broke 24,000 for the first time (another all-time Record). If the Dems had won the Presidential Election, the Market would be down 50% from these levels and Consumer Confidence, which is also at an highest, would be “low and glum!”

Maybe the stockmarket crash is fake news? Trump on Twitter, February 15 last year:

Great optimism for future of U.S. business, AND JOBS, with the DOW having an 11th straight record close.
