Alex Turnbull’s uses GetUp script to back Labor in Wentworth

GetUp script. Linda Silma l is, The Daily Telegraph, October 7:

The Wentworth by-election has brought left-wing activists GetUp forward as they try to get people not to vote for the Liberal Party … A leaked phone polling script … has exposed the group’s comical tactics … (Key phrases to use are:) “ ‘This time’ — very useful for soft-liberals … who we need to persuade to do something different; ‘Send a message’ … (doesn’t threaten) to destroy the Federal Government; talk about climate change …as the number one issue … attack … the hard-right for tearing down Malcolm Turnbull … talk about how Wentworth voters … have a rare opportunity … mention … ‘Wentworth by-election’ … ‘Don’t reward Liberals’— taps anger …”

Guess who parrots GetUp lines? Alex Turnbull tweets, October 11:

We need to send a message on climate change. This time don’t give the Liberals your vote. (Recorded message.) … We’ve had yet another leadership coup … the Liberal party has been taken over …by extremists on the hard right … as an investor in energy, I’ve seen … there’s no way that coal can compete anymore. Renewables have gotten too cheap … small-L liberals, such as myself are very upset … there seems to be no one we can reasonably vote for. But … with the Wentworth by-election … we’re going to have an election in 12 months … so if you want to send a signal… this is your opportunity. Don’t vote for the Liberal party in the Wentworth by-election… It’s the one clear signal you can send … This time don’t give the Liberals your vote.

Huge! GetUp tweets, October 11:

Woah. This is huge! Malcolm Turnbull’s own son, Alex, is urging people to vote *against* the Liberal Party. He says “the Liberal Party has been taken over” by “extremists” who are determined to wreck any action on climate change.

Huge? Aaron Patrick, The Australian Financial Review, August 28:

An environmentalist, Alex Turnbull admits his politics are further left than his father’s …

Old news. Peter Hannam, The Sydney Morning Herald, August 27:

Alex Turnbull … (says) it’s “impossible” to vote for the Liberal-National Coalition “in good conscience” because of its climate stance.

Wake up! Michael Koziol, The Sydney Morning Herald, September 1:

Malcolm Turnbull’s son Alex is soliciting donations for Labor (in the Wentworth by-election).

Awake? Kylar Loussikian, The Sydney Morning Herald, September 3:

Bronte Capital’s John Hempton (who’s managing more than a million for Malcolm Turnbull, donated) to Labor candidate Tim Murray … That makes two of Turnbull’s close associates … (the other is his) investment banker son Alex (an old friend of fellow hedge funder, Murray).

Alex says the future of coal is bleak? Jude Clemente, Forbes, October 7:

There are many, many falsehoods out there about coal. The biggest … is that “coal is dead” … both China (65 per cent) and India (75 per cent) are hugely dependent upon coal-based electricity … China’s coal imports overall are at four-year highs. “India will be using and importing more coal” and … (its strategy is to use foreign coal) because of its higher calorific value.

Who benefits from government support for renewables? Angel a Macdonald-Smith, The Australian Financial Review, March 1, 2016:

The Turnbull government’s support for … getting about 23.5 per cent of Australia’s electricity from renewable sources by 2020 has sparked a rise in the prices of renewable energy certificates … (The managing director of Infigen Energy, which runs wind farms) Miles George says that … thanks to the changed government rhetoric … shares … have … more than (doubled) … Investors include … Alex Turnbull.
