Prominent Sydney underworld figure John Macris has been shot dead in a seaside suburb of Athens.

The Daily Telegraph reports the 46-year-old was shot in the chest four times as he was getting out of his car after arriving at his home in Voula at around 9pm (local time).

Onlookers told The Daily Telegraph they heard a person yell “I’m going to finish him off” at the scene of the shooting.

Macris, who has a daughter with his partner, model Viktoria Karida, was reportedly known to police in Greece as well as Australia.

A former business partner of John Ibrahim, the pair fell out in 2007, a serious rift forming between the two families.

There is no suggestion the Ibrahim family is linked to Macri’s death.

Police are yet to release further information on the fatal shooting.

An investigation is ongoing.
