Donald Trump brushes dandruff off Emmanuel Macron’s shoulder

In his state visit to Washington, Emmanuel Macron enjoyed pomp and ceremony ... then Donald Trump had to go and ruin it all.

There was pomp, there was ceremony ... and then there was dandruff.

In the first state visit to Washington of the Trump era, French president Emmanuel Macron and Donald Trump appeared to be getting on famously — a sign of how Mr Macron’s France has leapfrogged Britain and Germany as America’s new best friend.

Amid talks on the Iran nuclear deal — which Mr Macron is urging Mr Trump to keep — the pair shared handshakes (some would say hand-holding) and mutual praise.

And then the US President had to go and ruin it all.

As the leaders stood side-by-side in the White House’s Oval Office, Mr Trump spoke of their “special relationship,” before turning to Mr Macron and illustrated that relationship in his own special way ... by brushing dandruff from the French president’s suit collar.

“We have a very special relationship,” Mr Trump said, before flicking at Mr Macron’s lapel. “In fact I’ll get that little piece of dandruff off ... We have to make him perfect, he is perfect,” he added to Mr Macron who laughed uneasily.

Perhaps Mr Trump had to feel that someone needed him, after wife Melania seemed to shy away from holding hands with him as they stood with Mr Macron and his wife Brigitte. The moment, a reprise of the time she swatted away her husband’s hand as they landed at Tel Aviv, Israel last year, has gone viral on social media.

But then Mr Macron came to the rescue again .....

Theresa May will never be able to beat this.
