‘Unique’ state memorial to see off music icon Michael Gudinski
The Victorian Premier has confirmed when a “unique” state memorial will be held for music giant Michael Gudinski.
A state memorial honouring the life of music giant Michael Gudinski will be hosted in Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena later this month.
Gudinski unexpectedly died on March 2 in his sleep. He was 68.
A statement from Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on Monday confirmed the memorial will be held in the evening on Wednesday, March 24.
“From the biggest names to up and coming artists, Michael’s life purpose was music,” Mr Andrews said.
“This unique State Memorial will celebrate that lifelong passion and honour his significant contribution to the Australian music industry and the state of Victoria.
Family, friends and colleagues are invited to attend, and in keeping with the indelible impact of his work, members of the public will also be able to register.”
Rock and pop legends from across the globe, including Bruce Springsteen, Jimmy Barnes and Kylie Minogue, took to social media to honour the beloved producer.
Gudinski was a teenager when he started managing bands and established Mushroom records when he was 20. His business — and passion for promoting Australian music — grew into a hugely successful empire from which Frontier Touring sprung.
