Detectives have released CCTV footage of the moment a group of men attempted to abduct a man in Sydney’s West last year in hopes the public can help identify the men.

In July 2022 the group of men attempted to force another man into a car outside a Vineyard Petrol Station on Windsor Road.

The man was able to get away uninjured before the group fled the scene in a white Mitsubishi Pajero which was found burnt out in Macquarie Fields at a later date.

Detectives have now released CCTV and images of the alleged offenders who they say “may be able to assist with their inquiries”.

The footage shows the white Mitsubishi pull up to a number of parked cars before three men climbed out of the car and approach the victim.

The man attempted to run from the group but fell to the ground.

Two of the men were armed with black and red baseball bats.

Soon after the botched abduction, the three men took off leaving what appears to be a black and white cap on at the scene.

NSW Police described one of the men as being of Pacific Islander and Maori appearance with a solid build, bald with black mullet hair style.

The man was also wearing a black jacket, a white T-shirt, black track pants and black shoes at the time of the incident.

A second man captured in the CCTV footage is also described as being of Pacific Islander and Maori appearance with a medium build.

He was wearing a black face covering, a black, grey and white coloured hooded jumper, grey trackpants and white shoes.

Another was wearing a black balaclava, black jumper, black pants and white shoes at the time of the attempted kidnapping.

Local police did commence initial inquiries before the investigation was handed to officers from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad under Strike Force Castlefield.

Anyone with information about the incident or the identity of the men is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000
