Two bodies have been found in a drain close to where two missing men were last seen near fast-flowing water during the height of the Townsville flood early Monday morning.

Police officers have formed a guard around the drain near the Aitkenvale Library west of the central business district.

The bodies are believed to be those of Troy Mathieson, 23, and Hughie Morton, 21, who police said had last been seen near the drain about 3pm Monday morning.

Police said the men had been seen near the scene of an alleged break-in to a bottle shop on Ross River Road.

A third man was arrested at the scene.
