Almost 37 years after his wife vanished from Sydney’s northern beaches, this is the moment police finally arrested Chris Dawson.
This is the moment police finally swooped on Chris Dawson, almost 37 years after his wife vanished from Sydney’s northern beaches.
Detectives arrived in suburban Biggera Waters, on the Gold Coast, in unmarked cars shortly before 8am.
Residents were going about their daily routines, with no forewarning that an arrest for one of the country’s most high-profile cold case murders was about to unfold in front of them.
NSW homicide detectives had been told at the start of the week that prosecutors from the NSW DPP, after considering a new brief of evidence for more than seven months, now believed there was enough evidence to put Mr Dawson on trial.
Given the green light, the detectives made the journey north to Queensland, where Dawson has been living out his retirement.
They arrived in Biggera Waters in one car, with Queensland homicide detectives travelling separately in another.

Queensland police had responsibility for the arrest as it was on their patch, while their NSW colleagues watched on.
Police are understood to have found Dawson in a granny flat at the back of the property.
When the knock on the door came, the 70-year-old was calm. The timing may have been a surprise, but he’d known for a long time that this day may come.
